Dog with strange eye problem, advise please
Question: Hi, Our vets have never seen an eye problem like this before and have no idea what it is. I'm hoping someone here will be able to offer some advise/diagnosis. Truls is a male black labrador, age 11.5 years, good physical condition and weight, not castrated. He looks like a pedigree working lab, but may be a cross-breed. He has black spheres in his eyes. These are mobile and affected by gravity, settling towards the lowest part of his eyes. Left eye has several and is affecting his vision, two photos of left eye: http://members.aol.com/pcar964/truls/eye01.jpg http://members.aol.com/pcar964/truls/eye02.jpg Right eye has two large ones and one small one. Does anyone have possible causes and treatments? Whilst on the subject of eyes, advise on the growth on upper eyelid would also be welcome. Thanks, Peter Answer: Would you be able to send the pictures to an Othomologist, or A veterinarian Othomologist? I would like to know what it can be to. I know that human eyes get black floaties that settle down and then get reabsorbed by the body, but I have never seen them where you can actually "see them" Please let us know once you get some info Answer: Hi cpietra I don't know any veterinary opthamologists who I could send the photos too. Can you recommend anyone? Peter Answer: I'm sorry, but I wouldn't know anyone in the UK, but can't your Vet suggest one to you. I'm sure he can call around and find out if there is one in your area. Good luck. Answer: pskirk, here is a site where you might help with your research http://www.bravo.org.uk/ Answer: here's another...very interesting http://davidlwilliams.org.uk/index.php Answer: I agree. A veterinary opthamologist is your best bet even if it means travelling to a large centre to see one. Your vet should be able to refer you to one. Good luck and keep us posted. Answer: That second site that Cpietra posted looks like it could be helpful. Again, good luck. I received this link from another forum http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iris_cyst Looking at the spheres with a torch, not all of them transilluminate, I hope it's not iris melanoma. Seeing vet again on Tuesday Peter Answer: Good luck Peter, I hope it's curable, whatever it is. Answer: The picture from the wikipedia site looks like what your dog has. Let's hope it is the iris cyst that can be drained. Good luck and keep us posted. Answer: Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.tendlife.com
