Cat Fur

Question:
Hello:

My cats fur gets little tuffs or knots and when you pull it out it has a hard core on it......is it fleas or anything like that.

Thank You

Answer:
If she is a long haired kitty, they may be matts and she may need more grooming. Long haired cats need to be brushed every day to make sure they do not acquire any matts. These things do look like what you are talking about but there may be other problems I am unaware of so it is hard to say without seeing them. Maybe if you posted a picture? What does your vet or groomer say?

Other than that, it could be that she managed to somehow get her hair caught up in something - that is, if she is regularly brushed and groomed and still has matts. Matts are very painful and should be taken out as soon as possible, sometimes if there are many, it needs to be done under anesthesia.

What do you mean by a "hard core"? Like a rope with a hard piece in the middle - that could well be a matt. Does she allow you to take them out - if they are matts, it would be a great relief to her!!
