I have a lemon
Question: Ok, I am going to start off by saying, lemon as being always broken, I love him to death.... Now we just got back from the vets again, I swear PFDS clinic stays in business because of us, LOL On a more serious note....... I got home from work, I fed my daughter, said hi to harley, mush, mush.... Then I noticed blood coming from his right ear. I looked inside, blood everywhere, dried and fresh. So I got kayla dressed, called the vet. They said bring him in, so I dropped my daughter off at my moms, and went. She took a look at the opposite ear first, all great, nice and clean. no issues, then she took a look at the ear that I told her about. She used the ear thingy to look inside. No infection...... Now what, it is severely swollen, so she could not see clearly enough to diagnosed. I told her about the weight loss, and how suddenly this has happened. Literally within a couple hours. She gave us a cleaner, and a steroid ointment to try an bring down the swelling. We go back in 7 days. If the swelling does not go down, we are doing a biopsy. And possible ct scan if needed. Everyone may think I am over reacting, but put the 2 things together, does not leave me to believe anything positive, I am worried, because he is always ill, or hurt. I hope it is nothing. She did not see anything foreign in his ear. We do not go into the woods, so not a branch. It has finally stopped bleeding, so I am cold compress to help with the pain and swelling. The blood and swelling are coming from the lower ear, near the folds inside. *crossing fingers it is nothing* Answer: Again ! Maybe the cat scratched him ? Hope it's nothing ! You need a break Answer: Too deep to be a scratch from a cat, that was the first thing I asked :( Answer: I'm sorry to hear that Harley is having ear troubles, Rottielover. Blood! Owie! it's nothing! Answer: to Harley again. Definately hoping its nothing serious. for you too rottielover, im sure you really need it. Answer: I know it is easy for me sitting here to say don't panic yet but just because the vet used the word biopsy, it may not be what you think. Nor are biopsies relegated to one area of practice. We use biopsies for a variety of things - to check to see if someone may have H pylori if they have an ulcer for example - that is still a biopsy. It simple means the removal of a sample of tissue for purposes of diagnosis. So, dhang in there. I know - if it were one ogf my cats, I would prob be upset too but take a deep breath - and animals pick up on our feelings and you don't want Harley to feel your anxiety - even if he must be anxious already, esp after being to the vet. I do hope it is nothing serious! It very well could be something like an infection or a benign tumour. some kind of otitis media (an ear infection that has complications), any number of things. The weight loss iis worrying but that too could be explained by a dog who does not feel well just not all that interested in eating - I know I am not keen on eating when I feel ill. At any rate, I hope your lemon who I am sure you love to pieces, will be fine and no biopsy will be required and even if one is ordered, that the results are not anything too serious!!! Take care of yourself too - panic and anxiety will only make yuo unwell and you need all your strenth right now. (I know, again it is easy for me to say but keep in mind I have just successfully fought cancer and took hardly any time off work so I do believe medicine and vet medicine can accomplish wonderful things. And with animals, they respond so much better than we humans do to chemo and other procedures!! I wish we humans did as well as cats and dogs on chemo or I wish the work I am doing creates the kind of medication that makes the treatment painless - that's prob a better way to put it. Take care!!! All the paws in this house are crossed for you!! btw, the ear thingy is an otoscope. Answer: Poor you and poor Harley. I hope it isn't anything serious. Answer: Omg again Your poor thing and poor Harley Hopefully it isn't anything serious Answer: the bleeding has stopped. Thank god, but the swelling is still there, so we must take this one day at a time. I was joking, I did not want people to get the idea that we was being returned, that was why I added, I love him to death. he is very uncomfortable right now, the steroids are making him drink more, and pee more. It is only for 7 days I hope. Then we go back so she can take a look. Yesterday it was too bad, she could not really tell where the bleeding was coming from. All she said is he does not have an actual ear infection. She gave him antibiotic ointment so one does not start with all the blood, and possible open wound. Better to be safe than sorry. Thank you all for your kind words. Harley and I both appreciate it more than you know... Answer: Poor "little" Harley! A lemon indeed ... he's just totally adorable and sweet! And a good learner too, and he adores you and Kayla as much as you love him, that's obvious. He'll trust you to do whatever you have to to treat this (or any other) thing. Give him a doggie-cookie for me, and a huge hug! Answer: for Harley, and so many big for you (and him!)! You've been through so much with Harley. I really hope this is nothing serious and that he has a nice, uneventful stretch of time after this. Answer: Poor Harley! Hehehe... I call Tommy our little lemon with all the time we've spent at the vet, too. Big hugs here from one lemon to another . Answer: Sorry for your Harley troubles. I just don't get what's going on in his ear... Can you maybe take a pic? I don't get where the blood was coming from and where the swelling is... Answer: poor poor harley!!! kisses better Answer: Poor Harley! I hope that you are both feeling better quick! Answer: Awww, poor Harley and poor you . It is so tough to see our babies sick and you have certainly had more than your fair share. Fingers crossed that Harley's ear gets better quick . Answer: I would love to take a pic, but it hurts too much, and he actually breaks his sit stay while I try to hold it, Which he never does) If I can get someone to either take the pic or hold him, I will do it. P.S Prin, that is what had the vet stumped, she could not figure it out ether because the folds( top of drum) were swollen too bad. Keep in mind this happened from lunch hour to after dinner. At lunch he seemed fine. Answer: How is Harley doing today?? Answer: Awww Rottielover ~ Harley is lucky that you love him to bits. I can't remember what you are feeding him but is there a possibility you can puree his foodif it isn't completely soft and in a mushy/slurpy form already ? If his ear is swollen and sore, he may be in significant pain just opening his mouth let alone chew or crunch anything. Answer: Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.tendlife.com
