Affordable doggie dentistry???
Question: Any suggestions on where I can find afforable dentistry for canines??...my adorable dog (a miniature poodle) needs straightforward/regular cleaning and we're being quoted roughly $400+...holy mackerel! Am in west end Toronto...would greatly appreciate any recommendations...thx. Answer: Hmm, I know a groomer here in Montreal has someone come in once or twice a week to clean teeth for a LOT less than that, but of course, not a vet and no induced sleep to be able to handle the dog. Not sure how she does it. I was going to bring our rescued Golden after Christmas, because when we got her, her teeth were brown and looked and smelled awful. They didn't have time in December, so we thought we'd just put up with the smell for a month or so and take her in January. By mid-January, her teeth were a lot cleaner, from the raw carrots, chewy-bones (special "toothbrush bones") and good food. We never did bring her in to have her teeth cleaned. Check with the groomers in your area though, maybe there is a similar service to the one here? Answer: If its just a cleaning, why not feed some raw chicken backs, necks? My Bailey has horrendous teeth and they are whitening up nicely ( and chunks of plaque are coming off, something my vet said would never happen, the only way to clean the teeth was a dental scraping ) Anyways, just a suggestion, a nice affordable and natural one at that. Answer: How old is your dog? It might be more expensive if the dog is older and especially if youd dog is very plaquey... It might be cheaper at Guelph, but then you'd have to pay for the gas to get there anyway. Answer: Great ideas, thank you I appreciate it...it seems like every other year she needs to have her teeth cleaned...wonder if any of the out of town vets are less $$??? Guelph wont take her without a referral :( Answer: Perhaps you should go to a veterinary college, where they need "practice patiens" for the students to learn on. They charge much less. I hope this idea helps. Answer: Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.tendlife.com
