Dog having accidents
Question: My 11 year old minature fox terrier has been acting strange lately. She has NEVER had accidents in the house, then a few weeks back, she did. I thought maybe I had left her alone too long & didn't think much of it. As the days have worn on, the accidents have become more regular. Her stools are loose & I think I may have seen a slight amount of blood in a fresh stool when we were out on a walk. I don't think she's doing this because she's lazy or ill behaved, she is very upset that she has done this & hides when I get home because she thinks she's in trouble. I scolded her mildly when the accidents began, but have stopped doing even that because I don't think she can help it. Other than the accidents, she seems fine. There has been no change in her diet, she's eating and drinking normally & she seems frisky as usual. I'm worried about her. I'm taking her to the vet in the AM, but the vet I go to (because I can afford them) doesn't always seem as thorough as I would like, so I was wondering if any of you might have any suggestions as to what might be ailing my baby so that I can have some suggestions for the vet tomorrow, or maybe suggest some tests that they may not ordinarily do.. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Answer: In an 11 yr old spayed bitch, it could be something as simple as a bladder infection. This is very common and they cannot help the urination any more than YOU could if you had a similar infection, so I'm glad you stopped scolding her for it. It could also be spay incontinence. In either case, a vet visit is mandatory. If you can get a little urine sample from her in the morning - maybe in an empty clean pill bottle - that would be good. I don't know about the blood in the stool, but take a sample with you. Even if no blood is apparent to the naked eye, it will show under examination. Answer: Thanks. I appreciate your input. I am hoping that it is something simple. I will see if I can bring samples to the vet. I do love her and after a day or so, I realized that this was beyond her control. Again, thanks for the advice, Answer: Just in case anyone is interested, Mindy went to the vet & tested negative for any parasites. The vet advised that It may be some type of virus & gave her some kind of suspension med named Bioso?? She gets it twice a day & since Thursday, her stools have become more normal. My dear Mindy Lou seems back to normal. Answer: Originally posted by hollybug26 Just in case anyone is interested, Mindy went to the vet & tested negative for any parasites. My dear Mindy Lou seems back to normal. Living in the good ol'petri dish called Florida can do that..there has been many cases here also. Hollybug..you are only 1 and 1/2 hours from me...I live in between Gainesville & Ocala...email me sometime. Answer: Hi Karin! Another Florida person... Things can get weird around here. I added you to my "buddy list". I'm not sure how that works, but I'm sure we'll talk again soon. Answer: Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.tendlife.com
