Postnatal Cat
Question: Monday night Mocha, a cat that I'd had in my house for almost 1 week at that point, went into labor. She had 5 gorgeous kittens and is a great mother. I have noticed lately that there seems to be a slight bit of vaginal bleeding still though. Is this a normal occurance after having kittens? I hope I hear back, if I don't, we'll be headed to the vet after I get off of work today Answer: Is this a stray cat you took in? If so, she needs to see the vet, along with her kittens, in a little while anyway to be checked for worms, fleas or other parasites or disease. Yes, a reddish-brown discharge after giving birth is normal and may continue for a little while. If there is bright red blood, large amounts, or if there is any foul odour, rush her to the vet. Let us know how she does! Answer: She is a cat that my parents had been taking care of out at their farm. When I first saw her there I took her to the vet to get wormed and shots and gave explicit inscructions that she needed to be spayed immediately. Well, when you don't live at a house, it is hard to control how things will work. I got an e-mail from my dad last Monday saying that he was 99% sure she was pregnant, so I rushed back to look at her, and sure enough, it looked like she would have them within a week and a half. I have applied for assistance for getting the kittens all spayed and neutered before they're placed with new homes. I'm a college student so I don't have money to pay for all of them to be spayed or neutered and I don't want their future owners to not do it for lack of funds either. Here is a picture of Mocha, I think she will become an inside cat after this (she's inside now) and will DEFINATELY be spayed as soon as she can. This picture is from when they were 12 hours old. They're now about 36 hours old and growning SO quickly. Answer: Mocha is a beautiful cat...Babies are a bit dark to see.:( LR,is there such a thing to have a s/n contract for kittens? Answer: Here's a picture of them that I just took a few minutes ago. They're almost 4 days old! You can't really see, but the black one is down by her feet. Answer: THANK YOU for taking this girl in and saving her from a life of hardship and suffering! She is a GORGEOUS tortie. I lightened up the pic a bit so we can see better. I have an adoption contract that you may use if you like. One bit of advice - if someone cannot afford to have a cat spayed or neutered, I wouldn't consider that a good home as the cat may be dumped the first time it needs medical care. I see this all the time! I'm so glad you are going to make her an indoor cat. Very few cats truly belong in barns and those who are there need the same care as indoor cats. Where are you located? MonaB - yes we do have s/n contracts for very young kittens, and we make sure it's carried out or the kitten is reclaimed. Answer: OMG,they are simply adorable. Awwww and Mommy looks so proud. You did a great thing by taking her in to your home. LR,it's great that you do that. I always wondered about that. What saddens me is,on the other site I go on,shelters are letting you adopt animals that are not s/n before leaving. And I can't get over how much the states are over populated with with animals.More there then here.:( Answer: I'm in Ames, IA. LR, can I get a copy of that contract from you. I'd thought about writing one up, but if you have one already, that's great. I just figured that it would be easiest to get them all spayed and neutered before they went to new homes (if possible). I'm also only placing them with people that are close to me, friends/family so that I know they'll be in good hands. I already have homes for 3 of the kittens ~Laura Answer: Congrats on taking in that beautiful cat!! She looks just like my girl, Spunky!!! Good luck finding good homes!! Answer: PM me your email addy and I'll send the contract! Answer: Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.tendlife.com
