Diarrhea again - should I wait it out?
Question: I have posted numerous times about my what would seem never ending struggle with Louie and his diarrhea problems. I just ran to the store, leaving the kids in my bedroom like I usually do when I just leave for quick outings, and I come home to soft/runny poops on my floor. The part that has form is too big to have come from Tickey, so I know we're still having issues with Louie. It was normal color and no blood or mucus. Just a mess. I switched foods and he's been on Innova Evo (non-red meat kind) for almost two months now. Last Thursday (March 22) he started taking Thyro-Tabs. And then on Sunday I started both my boys on a probiotic suppliment (Kyo-Dophilus), which I slowly worked my way up to giving them each one pill a day (started half a pill, then Thursday I started a whole pill). I also have been making plain yogurt treats for them (freezing some yogurt in an ice cube tray and sticking a dog treat in it, sometimes I've added pumpkin to add some more fiber). I dont give more than two in one day. Is it too soon to expect results from the Thyro-Tabs and probiotics? or could he still be transitioning to the Evo? or am I right in my urge to call and make yet another vet appointment? (They're closed now anyway so I figured I might as well ask you guys in the meantime.) Answer: Is the diarrhea still happening? It could be a food intolerance... Answer: Did you have a stool sample done? If you haven't done one in the last month, it might be an idea. Answer: Originally Posted by Prin Is the diarrhea still happening? And like I said, he is on Innova Evo right now and has been for a little over six weeks. He was doing ok on it, then, as it seems to always do inevitably, the diarrhea came back. Did you have a stool sample done? If you haven't done one in the last month, it might be an idea. He has had several stool tests done, but not in the last month. He was tested for worms and parasites and giardia (sp?) and just about everything else. Answer: It's full out diarrhea? Or is it just soft stool? If it's diarrhea that keeps recurring, I have no idea what it could be, especially after all the food changes. Probiotics didn't help at all? Cutting back a bit doesn't help either? It could still be the thyroid... It might take a while for the thyroid hormones to stabilize... Maybe... IMO, the only food left to try (if you haven't already) is a veggie food... DVP is the only one who makes a decent one... Answer: Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.tendlife.com
