my dog's eye

Question:
I have a 7 month old lab/boxer mix. This morning I noticed that she wouldn't open one eye-well, she would but she didn't want to. There was also a little gunk-white-coming from it. I figured she had an eye infection and was planning on taking her to the vet in the morning. This evening, she seems much better. My husband looked more closely at her eye and you can see a scratch-on the colored part of her eye. Is there anything the vet can do about that? Should I just keep her at home and wait it out unless there's signs of infection? Can I use some regular human eye drops and see if that helps any? I know I have tons of questions-sorry-but thanks so much in advance for any advice!

Answer:
No, human eye drops won't help. You need an ointment from the vet. Sorry!

Answer:
I agree to take her to the vet. Eye injuries can be quite serious if not attended. Good luck and let us know how it goes .

Answer:
I also agree. Her eye definitely needs to be checked by a vet. Good luck and keep us posted.

Answer:
It's even more important to see the vet if you can actually see a scratch.

One of my dogs just came in from playing and is squinting. I flushed it with saline and can't see a scratch--but because he's still squinting and the nictitating membrane is pulled up a bit, I'm taking him in to the vet this afternoon. We never mess with eye problems!

Answer:
ok so we took her to the vet yesterday. They dyed her eye but didn't see a scratch-thing is, you can see a spot on her eye-almost like a little pit. It's also turning white around it. They gave us some ointment to put in her eye, and if it's not better in a week then we have to take her back so they can sedate her. I'm kinda irritated though-why did pay them to tell us what's wrong, when they didn't even figure it out?!
