6 yr old neutered cat can having problems making it to litter box
Question: my six yr old neutered cat is having issues making it to the box. He is an indoor cat, eats iams cat food and has for years. he has a history of urinary blockage and a sensitive digestive system-vomit and diareah-we found the iams food to cause the least amount of loose stools and vomit-we have tried all brands of food-and he has always had the worst cat poop anyone we know has ever seen or smelled. the last two weeks he has had 2 urine incidents and 1 diarreah incident-he is just walking along and has to stop and go to the bathroom, no sniffing the spot, not digging or burying-it is just instantaneous I plan to call vet on monday, just curious if any one might know my answer before i call Answer: Unfortunately I have no advice for you, a cat in his state needs to be seen by a vet, which you're already doing. Please keep us posted on how he fares, hopefully it's nothing serious Answer: Only a vet can give you an answer. Your cat needs to have a complete workup done (blood panel, urine and stool samples). Good luck and please post with an update after you've seen the vet. Answer: Thanks for answering, we were just hoping to find a magic cure before we hear the bad news about our bubba.:( Answer: Unfortuneately, most of the time, there is no magic cure. Think positive as it very well may not be bad news. Good luck and keep us posted with an update. Answer: I hope it's nothing too serious. You mentioned that you feed Iams and have for years. I know of a few people who have fed Iams and had problems with urinary blockages. You said you've tried all brands of foods, but have you tried anything holistic? I have one cat in particular who vomits a lot and gets diarrhea with most foods; I now have her on Felidae and she hasn't had any of these problems. Felidae is also good for preventing urinary blockages and infections. If you are interested please check out the pet food forum, there is lots of good info there. I hope your kitty feels better soon. Answer: I've heard of many people having problems with Iam's and even vet recommended brands. It's a good idea to look at some of the holistic types, (lots of help/tips on the pet food forum) especially since he's so sensitive. It might seem expensive but it's way better value if it gets digested, also it goes further because it's denser in nutrients. Hopefully what's going on is not too serious, and can be alleviated with a diet change. I'd also try probiotics to see if that helps with the digestive issues. Good luck at the vet. Answer: Feeding a neutered male only dry food, especially IAMS can often cause UTI,but UTI is not a deathsentence. However,it is very painful to the cat,I hope he's seen a vet by now Answer: Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.tendlife.com
