Dog vomits hairballs

Question:
My 10 month old Cairn Terrier mix vomits bile and hairballs. So far, it has only happened late at night, every few nights. Any ideas what I can use to stop this, or is this going to happen because he is a hairy dog who plays with another hairy dog?

Answer:
Interesting, I have never seen a dog with hairballs. Are you keeping both dogs well groomed? My dog is a collie, and she plays with 2 German Shepherds all the time (and one shepherd has long hair), and none of the dogs have ever vomited hairballs.
Vomiting bile can be many things, but if he is vomiting hair, he must be ingesting it somehow, by grooming himself or getting the other dogs hair in his mouth through playing or licking the other dog.
You could check with your vet to make sure there is not a medical problem causing the vomiting, and then have both dogs groomed so there is less hair to ingest.

Answer:
What are you feeding your puppy?

Answer:
I'm wondering what you're feeding too. A not-so-good food would lead to more shedding, and possibly vomiting bile.
