Old male dog surgery problem - weird!
Question: Hi My 10 year old dog had to be castrated - something about hormonal disorder. The one teste was on the outside, and the other one was inside. The vet. surgeon opened his stomach, and found there something "weird" at his definition - it looked like a degenerated uterus (or womb) - pardon my english. All hormonal blood tests taken during the surgery came out ok, and the testes condition was ok too, so I have no idea whats going on. Does this sound logical? please, if anyone has information on such cases, or a detailed explanation, I'd be happy to hear. Remark: my dog is a mixed breed of mixed breeds, so I doubt genetic disorderes are likely. thanks, Jake. Answer: It sounds like your dog was born with reproductive organs of both sexes - a hermaphrodite! I don't know all the clinical details, but it has something to do with chromosones not splitting properly when the puppy is still being formed, I believe...? Not all that common, but it does happen. Even happens to people! Answer: Wow LR.. I have heard about it in humans, but never knew it could happen in dogs. Answer: i have just had a search and found this site www.bundabergvet.com It shows a female dog going into a spay and male organs being discovered. If you search on google you can find more than one case. Answer: sorry let me just get that right... http://www.bundabergvet.com.au/hermaphrodite_spey.htm ignore me - long day at work!! Answer: Thanks I found this link too, but I was hoping for some more information. seems like my dog's case is unusual in the sense the testes are ok.. in most pseudo-hermaphrodites, or hermaphrodites, the reproductive organs are non-working.. my dog was ok in this sense. also, is a temperature of 39.6c normal for a dog who had such surgery? thanks kobi Answer: Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.tendlife.com
