Dirty Cat
Question: I have an almost 14 year old cat, who has started doing some strange things. He is actually PLAYING in the toilet, and in his water dish (walking through it with all 4 paws.) He is drooling, though that lasted about a week and has since not been noticed, he was chewing his hard food, then spitting it out on the floor, but now he is eating normal again. But the one thing that has not gone away, is the fact that he is not cleaning himself. Any ideas? Answer: How long has it been since your cat had a check-up? Drooling and problems with food - even if they seem to have gone away - might mean that his teeth are bothering him. Mouth problems are often quite painful (abcesses, rotten teeth, etc) and get worse over time. I would be inclined to have the vet take a look, listen to his heart, etc. As for playing with water, maybe he's just discovered a new interest? My 10-year old tom spends alot of time in the bathtub, self-baptizing under the dripping tap, his head is always wet. Just quirky! Answer: I'd go with Badger, the 14yr old kitty probably has a painful mouth and it needs to be checked by a vet. I have 2 cats who likes dripping water and often get their heads all wet. At 14 your cat needs a senior check-up,teeth,bloodtest etc.. Answer: Budsmom, I would have a vet take a look, when a cat stops looking after himself it usually means he's too ill to care. Answer: VERY good point cpietra, I missed that. Please take your cat to the vet and report back. Older kitties are to be treasured, like little sages, and they need regular upkeep to stay healthy.
