Male SMELLY Genital Discharge

Question:
My male boxer has a greenish/yellowish genital discharge, and it smells terrible!!! We took him to the vet about a month and a half ago for the same problem, although he was also drinking a ton of water and puking most of it back up. They took a urine sample and said that it was the start of a bladder infection. Ty was placed on clavamox for 10 days. The discharge stopped pretty quickly afterwards. Now the discharge is back, but the excessive water drinking and throwing up is not. Does he have another bladder infection so soon? If so, what causes a bladder infection, or what might we be able to do to stop the discharge, if anything at all? Additionally, within the last month, Ty irritated a disk in his neck so he was placed on an anti-inflammatory, Carprofen. Would this maybe have something to do with the discharge?

Any help would be great!
Trish

Answer:
Possible gastrointestinal side effects of carprofen include vomiting, diarrhea, dark tarry stool and anorexia. You should call your vet about this.

Does his feces look alright?

Answer:
His feces look normal. They're a little softer than usual but that's about it. He has no problems urinating. He is no pain when touched anywhere. He's eating and drinking normally. Yesterday he did throw up in the morning - it was a dark greenish liquid. I've been keeping an eye on him, but that's the only activity that might indicate he's not feeling well. He has not thrown up since. He's running and jumping as he normally would and he has a high level of energy. I can't find any information on the web about genital discharge without other symptoms also being present, none of which Ty has. My concern for the discharge, other than that it's present, is that somewhere on this website someone said that if genital discharge has a bad odor, it could be the sign of an infection - but shouldn't Ty present other indications of being sick?

Answer:
I have no experience with this particular problem but just like with people infections can return so I would suggest going back to the vet - especially since the discharge has returned and it smells bad.

If he was on antibiotics and it seemed to help but now the discharge has returned - perhaps the antibiotic wasn't completely effective or maybe they would give you a different kind to try or investigate the problem further?

Sometimes pets hide their discomfort so it might be difficult to tell completely how he is feeling.

I hope you are able to get it resolved

Answer:
Green, yellow and smelly means there IS an infection of some sort. I'd get back to the vet or get a second opinion.

Answer:
I wonder if it could be infected anal glands? same problem my dog had a couple weeks ago.
