New puppy with anal fluid
Question: Hi there, We just got a new puppy, standard schunazuer, 12 weeks old. She is eating good, very active and seems very healthy. Today when I picked her up in my arms to take her outside, I have notice she had quite a bit of fish smelly clear/white liquid on my pants. I am not sure if this is anal glands fluid or something from her front area. Isn't she too young to have full anal galns??? please help, Sara George Answer: I think that the typical color of anal gland fluid is brown. It should look kinda oily and does have a fishy odor. You described the fluid as being clear/white. Could it be coming from her vaginal area instead? Answer: It is a yellow brown to grey in colour. Since you just got this pup have you taken her to a vet for a check up? Answer: Sara is my first female dog ever and I have no clue on this. If the fishy smell clear/white fluid is not from her anal, could this me from her viginal area? Could this be a sign of her heat stage is approaching??? But she is only 12 weeks old. This fluid only happened once yesterday, she has a habit of holding in her pee, she is still going through potty taining but she is not use to going out so she holds 'till we get inside on her peepad. SaraGeorge Answer: I'm not exactly sure when dogs go into heat - I think it can be as early as 4 months or as late as 14 months? I would take her to the vet to determine the cause especially if it has that kind of odor cause that could indicate an infection of some sort. Good luck! Answer: my dog had the anal gland problem 3 weeks ago. That stuff is about as foul smelling as you can get. If it smells bad that sounds like what it is. The vet had to manually squeeze them out and it was unbearable for me to stay in the room as they wanted me to wait while they cleaned up the dog.(I went up front lol) They put her on antibiotics for a week or so and that was that. Answer: Did you phone your vet to ask their opion?? and if so what was the answer?? Did you take her in to find out and have her checked?? Answer: But I've never seen clear/white colored anal gland fluid. Any updates on how she is doing? Answer: Sorry for the late reply...super busy with little Sara. She is doing much better, I phoned the breeder and she told me that it happend to one of the puppy who flew down to Texas on a olong flight. She thinks that it is very possible, very watery diarrhea. Since then she is going pee and poo outside no problem! I booked an appointment with our vet next week so we will find out more about it. SaraGeorge Answer: Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.tendlife.com
