Coconut oil and yeast?
Question: I didn't want to hijack another thread, but somebody (Prin?) mentioned using coconut oil for skin issues if they're caused by yeast. Does that work for anything to do with yeast? Tommy has another ear infection, his second in a couple of months. The vet gave us some cream to clear it up now and an ear wash to use whenever we notice his ears getting a bit dirty or smelly later too, but would using a bit of coconut oil help prevent them? Even though he's on probiotics, he seems to keep having a little yeast problem and I'd rather solve it than keep treating it after the fact, if possible! Answer: Yeah, I learned it from a link I posted (TeriM pointed it out to me ) from the whole dog journal... Here, page 12: http://www.villagepawsandclaws.com/WDJ_Feb2007.pdf I think it would help, if he's ready for supplements. They love it. They eat it right off the spoon. I got extra virgin organic fair trade stuff. (hehe, spoiled doggies ). Answer: Thanks Prin ! I think I'll give him a couple of weeks to deal with the food changes and then try it. Do you give it to your doggies every day? Tommy seems to be handling everything really well these days - way less vomiting and even the food changes don't seem to have any effect at all other then slightly less formed poops every so often, lol. I've got him on Prozyme still and acidophilus, and they seem to be working really well - I guess I'd be supplementing him out the wazoo by adding coconut oil! But hey, if the supplements can keep him off medication it's gotta be better - 2-3 supplements vs. prednisone and antibiotics, I'll try the supplements instead. He'll probably love it too, he's starting to really enjoy tasting EVERYTHING now that his tummy is better (you can't even TRY to eat an apple by yourself around here these days ). Answer: I don't give it every day... I kind of rotate a bit between that and the salmon oil, but I give more of the salmon oil (it's a bit cheaper ). Just don't taste it. You can smell it, but trust me it doesn't taste like it smells. Answer: I just bought some to try with Lucy. Smells wonderful but the texture is kinda gross . Answer: Did you try it? It's like wax, eh? Answer: You mean did I try to taste it? No way, I am totally one of those people affected by food texture and I would be gagging all over the place . The dogs seem to like it though . Do you give it together with the other oil or seperate? Answer: I either give it separately or I give a half a squirt instead of 2 squirts if I give both... I just don't want them to have too much oil in one meal... I hate bad textures too. I tried it. I don't recommend it. Answer: How much do you give them? I think you said Boo got dandruff from it, is he still getting it? Answer: Jemma gets about 2tsp and Boo gets a bit more than a taste... Yeah, he did get 'ruff from it, which is why I only give him a taste and a bit. It seems to be helping Jemma though. Answer: Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.tendlife.com
