2 Year Old Shepard/Husky Mix
Question: We have a wonderful female shepard/husky dog. She has started limping on her back right side. At first I thought it was her paw. So we waited a few weeks, and we kept checking it out. It seems worse after she has been laying down for awhile. I am now concerned it is her hip? We took her to the Vet and they suggested XRays, and pretty much ruled out anything wrong with the paw. We walk her alot (3 long walks a day) buy really good food, how could this happen. I am so worried. Can anyone out there suggest anything? Some ppl are saying give her aspirns, I am not sure thats a good idea. Answer: Spend the money on the xrays. That way you'll have a confirmed diagnosis hopefully and then you will have an idea what to do. Aspirin will only mask the problem and can cause stomach problems. Answer: Xrays would probably be best. Once you know for sure what the problem is, your vet can set a course of action. They can also prescribe a pain killer if she needs it; unless you know what you're doing, giving over the counter meds to your dog can be dangerous. Answer: We walk her alot (3 long walks a day) buy really good food, how could this happen. It could be hips, and this arrises from poor breeding stock. Such as her mother and/or father "carrying" the genetics for it. That is the reason for OFA testing in purebreds. It minimizes the chances of a displasic dog. Definately get the Xrays, you dont want to let something like hip displaysia go untreated. It gets more and more painful as time goes by. I would also reccommend you start her up on some glucosamine and msm suppliments. Being a large breed like she is, it wont hurt her to have some extra. Asprin also wont help if it is hips, as said earlier it will just mask effects. Asprin is more for arthritis inflamation, either way, your vet will be able to help you best. Answer: I say do the xrays first before giving anything like asprin. If you do give asprin try and find the coated ones they are easier on the stomach. The only thing I would give would be Glucosamine as a daily supplement. I have also been told that ester vitamin c is really good as an anti inflammatory. But do not use it till after you have a diagnosis you do not want any of the symptoms masked. Answer: go for the xrays first my huskey had bad hips but with her arthitis we had no idea vet thought it was only arthitis.. it got worst over time... so please do not wait Answer: Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.tendlife.com
