pup has possible upset tummy
Question: DH got up for work quite early this morning and found Sprocket had an accident sometime during the night. Last night he pee'd on the floor, we don't make a big deal out of it when he does this, as it's few and far inbetween and 99.999999% of the time is our fault for not taking him out enough. This morning it was diahrea that was found on the floor, and DH didn't find out in a nice way, he stepped in it. When I got up later, I went to find some toys to put in Sprocket's kennel and noticed he had pee'd on his bed as well. I quickly threw the cover in the wash, saw that Sprocket thought he was in trouble, pet him on the head and got his Kong ready. I'm not sure what kind of bug Sprocket picked up, but I'm assuming it's from all the garbage melting outside. I never noticed the garbage around half as much as I do now that I own a dog. Anyhow, I was reluctant to put him in his kennel, as he obviously isn't able to hold his bowel movements. I left him in his crate at 0730 and will be going home at 1230, but am looking to get home earlier if I can. For all you dog owners out there, is this sometimes something that happens during the melting season? I know my mom and dad's dog use to get Garbage gut alot because he'd cruise around the alley looking for scraps, but I don't know how Sprocket would get it, we're always with him. Poor guy, my husband just came into my office asking how the dog was and tried (but didn't succeed) to leavethe office for 15mins to check up on him. Answer: Whatever it is, it's not normal. I hope the vet can help.. Answer: Thanks Prin...you're always helpful. Well I left work early to check on the pooch and keep and eye on him and he seemed alot better, things were no longer as runny. He drank alot of water and I gave him less food for lunch. Later he started playing, attempting to play bite, so he's normal. Tonight he's playing, chasing his toys and playing around with us. I'll keep an eye on him and see if things continue to improve. I think he ate something outside, I'll keep an eye on things a bit more. Answer: How is Sprocket today? Answer: What I do when my buggers eat something non-life threatening, is fast them the next 12-24 hours till they have no signs of anything... If it keeps going, then I bring them in... I hope he's ok. Answer: I too fast my dogs at the first sign of the runs, just for the peace of mind that I'm not compounding the issue in their tummies while they're having problems like that. If he's not better in a day or so, I'd definitely get him off to the vet for a parasite/bacteria/anythingelsegrowinginthere culture. On a side note, we don't have trouble with the melting season so much here in Northern Virginia, as we do during the grass prepping phase. They spray so much crap on the grass to make it look healthier than it actually is, that when my shepherd tries to pretend she's a moocow, she gets violently ill from eating even a few blades of grass.
