Kitten licks/eats his own poo?

Question:
My husband and I adopted a 9 week old kitten last week. We just noticed that after he uses his litterbox, he will lick or even eat his own poo! Is this normal or is it something to be worried about?

Answer:
I have never ever seen a cat/kitten eating his own poop and I've had many cats.
My biggest concern would be the litter, any clay-litter can do serious damage if ingested.
I would watch him and make sure the box is always cleaned of any poop right away.
Hopefully it's just a kitten-thing,but maybe he is just not getting enough food
A kitten should be fed a few times a day

Answer:
I've had lots of cats/kittens too and have never seen this kind of behaviour. I also agree with Chico2 and would stop using the clumping clay litter because if ingested it can be fatal.

Has he been checked over by your vet yet?

Answer:
For sure that cant be normal,my cat does her best to cover those turds up.I would go to vet......

Answer:
Has he been to the vet yet? I've never seen that with a cat of any age and have had many over the years. He needs to be on a good quality high calorie diet especially while he's growing and fed whenever he wants imo. Maybe as chico2 suggested he is not getting enough food or if he has tapeworms that could also make him quite hungry if I'm not mistaken. I'd take him to the vet though if he hasn't been recently/yet so they can check for worms and arrange for his vaccinations and neuter. Any pictures?

Answer:
Well, we feed him Natural Choice kitten food and he gets plenty of it. We haven't taken him to the vet yet but plan to very soon. We just have to find one!

As far as the poo eating goes, I have seen him do it once and my husband has seen it once or twice. I don't know what the deal is, but I will be sure to take him to the vet. He has all his shots except the rabies, which he will get in a couple weeks, as he was too young when we got him.

He is FULL of energy, almost too much of it. He wakes us up constantly, wanting to play. Just right now he is trying to catch the little arrow on the screen when I move the mouse. He is very adorable and so playful and we can't wait to watch him grow. We are TRYING to introduce him to an adult cat that we have in the house, but neither of them like that too much. The adult cat seems to be warming up to the kitten more so than the other way around. Today, I held the kitten on the ground and the adult cat was coming to sniff him but the kitten hissed at him so the adult cat hissed back! Well, I can always try tomorrow!

Awww,a little orange kitten tooo sweet!
Please be very careful about the poopeating(litter)..
As for the baby and the grown-up kitty, just be patient, they'll love ech other in no time.
I've never had any major problem introducing a kitten to a mature cat, only in the beginning, soon yours will be snoozing together and enjoy each others company.I've always had more than one cat,the best way for both you and the cats.

Answer:
I will just get some of that pellet litter that I have seen in the meantime.

Answer:
Aww, he's a real cutie.

I haven't heard anything about Natural Choice, maybe someone else here will be able to comment on it, the vet will probably try to push something crappy like Medi-cal (may want to be armed with a good defense!). I've heard that dogs not digesting food properly can exacerbate the poo eating situation because the food still tastes like a snack:P, possibly something to consider.
Good luck finding a vet.
