My pugapoo has a rash on tail

Question:
Hello all,

I picked up my dog from the kennel today after being away for four days and when I got home I noticed she had poop stuck on her fur around her tail and bum. She got out on the grass and started scraping herself. I brought her in and bathed her immediately to discover she had scraped herself raw trying to get it off. She is now all clean and I washed her with shampoo and antibacterial soap, but I don't know whether to leave the skin as is or whether I should use some sort of antibacterial cream on her scraped tail and bum area?

I live in a remote area and we have no vet here. The nearest vet is a four hour drive away.

If anyone has any suggestions, I'd sure be appreciative.

Thanks in advance,

Answer:
I'd put on a little antibacterial cream to discourage infection, just for a few days. Is it antibiotic as well? I'd wash the area every time she goes with plain water, and then put on a very small amount of cream. Try to prevent her from scooting or licking (tough, I know) until the skin begins to look healthy again.
Poor thing. Some kennel!

Answer:
Badger I will try that. I'm thinking that is likely a good treatment to help prevent infection. Yes, I felt so bad for my little dog...I'm glad to be home.

Answer:
I would rub a little antibiotic ointment on it a few times a day. Otherwise just keep it clean, and make sure she doesnt rub it any more, and it should be ok.
