Smelly ears
Question: Jag climbed up on me today and i smelt something coming from his ears. the smell reminded me of the bottom of a bag of nutro dog food or feed. and no i'm not off my rocker. could that mean he's got an ear infection.i do clean his ears often but i don't think i'm going deep enough.i don't want to go to deep.and i us cotton balls. Answer: Unless you have been shown how to clean the ear deep down you shouldn't do it. A smell coming from the ear usually means an infection. Is there any brown colored discharge? Answer: there is dark brown spots that look like mud.i haven't seen anything else in the ear at all.i just put the cotten ball inside the ear and wipe.i don't go any deeper then that.i don't want to take a chance and go deeper. Answer: Sounds like it may be an infection. Hunter's get like that when he has infections due to yeast. I would get a vet to take a look before it gets worse. Good Luck. Answer: My little guy, Jack, had problems with dirty ears similiar to what you describe - very smelly, dark mud-like crap. We tried the normal cleaning stuff daily, which made them look clean but within hours the 'mud' was back. We took him to the vet where they took a sample of the goo for tests. Turns out he had a yeast infection in both ears. We were given a small bottle of suffi-somethingorother (cost was about $15 for the meds). Within about five days his ears were clean and have remained clean for more than a month. May be worth the quick vet trip to get his ears checked. You may find that it will be a simple fix. Cheers Answer: Thanks everbody.were going to take him to the vet. they called for a follow up with the last time we were there and want to do a blood test so i will get them checked then. Answer: Good luck! (It does sound like yeast, though). I got a cleaner from the vet that helps keep their floppy ears clean. I think it's called Vet Solution and a little bit on a cotton ball or soft cloth works well. It acidifies the ear so that yeast can't grow, but make sure his ears aren't scratched on the inside before you use it because it stings a raw ear. Answer: Thanks stryker we go to the vet on monday.for blood panel and the ears Answer: HUGS for Jag and good luck at the vet. Answer: One of my family's cats had smelly ears and it turned out to be ear mites - which suprised the heck out of us since she never fussed with her ears at all! Answer: Thanks rainbow.the vet gave the wife some website and names of some books on raw feeding.they thought we switched to raw because of the recalls i told her it was before that and i wasn't feeding any of the recalled food.that's why they wanted to do the blood panel.going to get it done anyways just to be safe Answer: Good luck! Hope it's something simple and easy to fix so you're baby feels better quickfast! Answer: If you clean the ears and within a little bit they're cruddy again, it's because the source is still there. Sometimes it's yeast, but a lot of the time, the root is allergies. Answer: Thanks prin.we will find out on monday at the vet.so we can get it stopped.
