Aural Hematoma
Question: Hi there! Does anyone have experience with aural hematoma? My doctor recommended surgery but I am not sure if I want to put my pet through an operation. While the condition is expected to go away without surgery, the result is what many refer to as "unsightly cauliflower ears". Does anyone know what this means? Do any of you have a pet who has had aural hematoma? Thanks! Answer: Babyrocky just went through this: There's probably some info in there that will help. She had the same dilemma. Good luck! Answer: Wow, thanks! This really helps Answer: By the way.... what do cauliflower ears look like? Are they that bad? Answer: Yeah, it's pretty gross. The ear shrivels up and gets hard and crunchy. It's permanent too. Answer: Does anyone have any pictures of this? My boyfriend thinks that the "cauliflower ear" is no big deal and is leaning towards not treating it...I want to show him what it actulally looks like. Answer: When you google "cauliflower ear", there's a cat one, but there's no dog ones on the net that I can find.. Answer: I saw the surgery done on a Golden on Emergency Vet on Animal Planet, not an intrusive procedure,of course there is anesthesia, but I would definitely have it done if I had a dog with this problem. Shouldn't it be pretty much the same whether a cat, a dog, or a human. I'd definitely have it done as well. Answer: Yeah, but the kitty one isn't as obvious- I mean a kitty pinna is much smaller than a doggy pinna. Answer: Here's a human one. http://www.ghorayeb.com/CauliflowerEar.html Answer: What? (ok, it's not as funny in writing...) Answer: You deaf too? Only in my left ear. Answer: Hi guys, Just an update. We got very lucky - the pocket full of fluid disappeared by the 3rd day and no surgery was needed. We are so relieved...no cauliflower ear either! Amazing...the vet said that we were very lucky and while my dog's condition looked exactly like aural hematoma, it is possible that it was an allergic reaction to an insect bite...hooray! Answer: Wow, that's lucky. Answer: WooHoo....that's good news. Answer: Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.tendlife.com
