Pink nose

Question:
I recently got a rescue dog, a beagle, about 7 years old with 3 legs and a pink nose. The leg I can do nothing about but it is the pink nose that bothers me. It appears to be the result of lying in the sun too much.
The vet has examined it for cancer and thankfully he doesn't have it yet but I am worried. The vet gave me a product called saniderm but as soon as I apply it the dog licks it off. I tried to put a bandaid on but it won't stick to the hair on his nose.
Left unattended the skin on the nose will try to regenerate but when it is close to covering the nose the dog will remove it.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to resolve this problem. Thanks!

First of all welcome to the forum and thank you for rescuing your three-legged friend. You could try putting Vitamin E oil on his nose. You can buy the liquid form or else break open a capsule and dab it on his nose. I realize you live in Panama but definitely try to keep him out of the sun.

Did your vet rule out Discoid Lupus?

I've also had luck with vitamin e for various skin irritations, it is especially good for healing burns. Aloe Vera from a freshly cut leaf might also help. However if the nose is quite raw it may sting a little bit so be careful to use only a small drop if you try it. Vit e shouldn't sting at all though.

Its so nice to hear when a "disabled" dog finds a caring home. I'd love to see pictures.

What type of dog food bowl are you using? Switching to metal if you're using plastic might help...

Good luck!
