What's it called?
Question: Okay about .. 2-3 weeks ago I saw a commercial for some sort of flea and tick product that also protected against all kids of other worms and parasites. I can't remember what it was called other then "something advantage" or "something plus" and I have not seen the commercial again and checked 1800 pet meds and they don't have anything listed. It was for cats and dogs I think. Can anyone help me out here? I wanted to see if it was any good because the commercial made it sound super duper awesome. My cats don't go outside but it seemed like a good idea anyways. It said it protected against all these interenal parasites and prevented all types of bugs from biting and killed fleas and ticks like magic. It seemed too good to be true and I'd really like to find out Answer: I don't think indoor cats need it... Preventatives are still pesticides and it's better to not use them when they're not necessary.. Check www.vetproductsdirect.com . They might have what you're looking for. It's always best to ask your vet before trying anything new though. Answer: If your cats do not go outside I would not use any product like that. Answer: If your cats are indoor, they don't need it. I wouldn't use anything unless I had to. Cindy Answer: I use Advantage(in another month or so),with apprehension, since our cats go outside with us...Squirrels and birds are loaded with fleas I had a flea-infestation once when I had my other cats and a dog, don't ever want it again.. The cats hate it I would not use it on indoor cats!! Answer: Cats cannot get fleas from squirrels or birds because fleas are very host specific. My dog had chipmunk fleas once (due to a close encounter with a chipmunk) but they can't survive on a dog. Answer: Yes, you could call your vet's office to track this down. but I agree with the others - if kitty is indoors only... no need to use any of these, and better to avoid any unnecessary treatments for pets. I use Advantage, as my cats occassionally go out into the back yard (with me only) in the warm weather, and I also have a dog who may bring them in. I used to use in summer months just as a preventative.. now only apply this when I see actual evidence. Sometimes a year, even two goes by before I ever need it. Other times I've applied monthly.. until I see the problem is gone. I was really suprised to find flea dirt on one of my cats when combing him just recently - pretty early in the year for this. I thought it must be something else he'd picked up.. but did the water test, and this confirmed it was time for Advantage . I still had some unused from last summer... so did all 4 of them. Where's there's one flea.. Like Chico, I had a horrible infestation of fleas many years ago (before effective products were available) and "never" want to deal with that nightmare again). Answer: It's called Advantage Multi. I saw the commercial yesterday. But...I would be very leery of using a product that is brand new on the market. When the 6 month heartworm shot for dogs came out everyone thought it was the greatest thing, but my vet said "wait and see". Ended up with many many dogs dying and lawsuits and everything, so my vet's attitude makes sense. He waits for a product to be on the market for at least a year before considering it. Better safe than sorry. If your cat is an indoor kitty, you don't need any flea/tick/deworming products. Just unnecessary chemicals, and there are more and more problems showing up with the flea/tick repellents now. Answer: There is also one called Revolution in Canada that covers fleas, ticks and many types of worms. Answer: Revolution is better IMO as it is not a pesticide. Advantage is dangerous for us and the pets (if ingested). As far as I know the Advantage Plus is also only available in the States so far. Revolution does the same though, worms and fleas. It's only a couple dollars more than the regular Advantage. And an aside, indoor pets DO need flea treatment too, fleas can be brought into your home by visitors on clothing and shoes. That may be how this last bout started here. And trust me you DO NOT want to find out that one of your pets is allergic to fleas the hard way. We had a year long saga with Fagan becuase of a flea bite after I took in some strays. It was horrible and he really suffered. It took me almost 8 months just to figure out what was wrong with the help of my vet. Also flea eggs last up to 7 months. ( also may have been the culprit here because we moved.) Just because your pets don't go outside doesn't mean the great outdoors doesn't come in. I have 6 and now treat them every month, and although the vet said I could stop after the seventh treatment I am going to continue every flea season. Good Luck Sort of I even had a nightmare last night about being invaded by fleas!! Those little buggers really irritate me. When we had them I felt like I was under attack, and boy did I fight back! Just like if you say 'lice' to my mom, she immediately starts itching her head, even though we never had them. Answer: Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.tendlife.com
