Rolands going to the vet in the morning...
Question: My boy has a vet appointment in the morning. Its time for his checkup and he has been having some eye issues. i think. the rims of his eyes seem really red to me. they dont seem to be bothering him but im worried . also i have started him on California natural and once again he is having some digestive issues. i now have him on plain chicken and rice for a day and then will start introducing the CN slowly with that. going to see if the vet can suggest anything i can give him to ease the transition. i hate having to [ut him through the car ride and the time there. i have to wait around for a ride home from a friend. i know its for his own good but its not good for me. Its when he has to go to the vet or travel that i think im in too deep. i have WAY too much empathy and it upsets me more than him i think. anyway. wish me strenth and tell me to stop being such a ninny. Answer: Good luck at the vet. Answer: thank you Prin. Answer: I know how hard it is to take your kitty to the vet and put them through the anxiety of it all. I used to almost be sick myself when my cats had to go. It just seemed so hard on them. When the cat carrier would appear the cats would head for the hills. They would hide under the bed and you just knew they were so upset. There I'm sure that made you feel better. Geeeezz Now with Lukka it's so much easier. She just wants to be where I am, and the surroundings don't seem to be very important, where as with cats they only want to be where they are comfortable and that means no leaving the premises when you do. Well, thats not about to make you feel any better is it. Just gonna stop talking now and let someone else soothe your worried mind Answer: I hope it goes smoothly for Roland. Thats what I wanted to say all along but for some stupid reason...didn't Answer: for kitty and for you Answer: good luck Roland Answer: good luck that all goes well Answer: thank you eveyone. its always amazing the support on here. Answer: so i went to the vet and got Rolands ears cleaned and some stuff for his eyes and very sadly some hypo-allergenic food (medi cal ) cause she thinks that his eyes, ears and loose poop have something to do with allergies. she is really nice and understands that i want him back on holistic food asap but says at least him being on this for a while we can find out if his symptoms are allergy related. at least it has no gluten in it at all and no vit k. at this stage i need to do what helps him and if that means him being on not holistic food for a while till we sort it out then thats what has to happen. she said if the food and the eye stuff doesnt help his eyes then we will try some stuff for Clamidia and if that doesnt work then herpes stuff. im hoping its some sort of allergy. she was really nice my new vet. she was reluctant to give him anything for his eyes until we figure out if its allergy related but i am worried that hes uncomfortable so she gave him some cream . she seems to not be one of those "give it antibiotics whatever it is" kind of vets. anyhoo. he was so great at the vet, walking around on his leash then curling up and going to sleep while we talked. so we both survived. Answer: I'm glad things went uhhh kinda of well at the vet and that you like your new vet that is important. hopfully you can find out want is going on and treat it and be back to normal soon Answer: I had all mine on the same food, the Medi-cal Hypo Gastro for the same reason. Fagan had some severe allergy symptoms and that food did clear it up, well that and changing from corn to wheat litter. I did a lot of research on cat allergies (and for once not MY cat allergies!!!), and found a list of most likely culprits for cats... Topping that list were the grains, then chicken and some fish. I was shocked to see the chicken there. I have since switched them from the Medi-cal to the California Naturals Herring and Sweet Potato, it still has no corn/wheat and no chicken. I'm not sure if it would work for you, but here, so far so good. There are a LOT of holistic brands that are hypoallergenic, you could shop around if you aren't comfortable with the Medi-cal. It does work though so you have to weight your options. I find though that the vets do push the Medi-cal too much, and it was making me nervous that they recalled some of the other Medi-cal food recently. Oh and as for being a spaz at vet time....don't worry you are so not alone. The only cat I don't feel guilty with is Fagan, and thats only because he has been so many times in the last year (over 30 visits ) he just goes to sleep in the car and has accepted his vet visits as necessary. The other six however are traumatised every time. And the crying in the car...the panting... it breaks my heart and I feel so evil. But then we get back home and it's like it never happened! Good luck! Answer: how do i find those hypoallergenic holistics? once his issues have been sorted out and his stomach is back to normal and i know that its probably allergens then i can transfer him to a holistic hypo allergenic. Answer: Glad things went well at the vet, Roland'sMom, and good luck to you getting the food issues sorted out for your baby. Answer: Anyone heard of these guys? http://www.happypaws.ca/ Answer: I hadn't, but they're not as "natural" as they say they are, IMO... Chicken meal (top-grade), whole ground brown rice, organic whole wheat, fresh herring meal, poultry oil - preserved with Vitamin E (tocopherols) &Vitamin C (citric acid ), whole chicken, organic flax, fresh carrots & spinach, liver meal, phosphoric acid, fish oil, fresh cranberries, nutritional yeast, natural sea salt. Supplements: yucca plant extract, choline chloride, taurine, potassium chloride, ferrous sulfate, Vitamin E, iron, zinc oxide, zinc amino acid chelate, ascorbic acid, niacin, Vitamin B 12, di-methionine, Vitamin A, copper sulphate, copper amino acid chelate, manganous oxide, calcium pantothenate, thiamine mononitrate, riboflavin, pyridoxine hydrochloride, Vitamin D3, biotin, folic acid, Vitamin K, calcium iodate, sodium selentite. I bolded all the baddies. What is the point of putting "top grade" chicken if you're going to put mystery meats and fats in there anyway? Liver meal? What the hey animal is it from? And wheat for a pet with allergies is not good, IMO. To find a food for Rolland, you have to list all the foods you've given him so far and find a food without any of the ingredients of the foods you've already tried. Answer: thank you Prin. i think its going to go something like duck and fish stuff is the stuff i havent tried. Answer: If you want to list the names of the foods you've tried, I can go through them. Answer: i have tried the evo, the solid gold (katzenflocken) and california natural (chicken and rice) . and he started on Neutro nautural choice kitten. it started to go bad with the evo and went down hill from there. now i checked his litter box and his poop is perfect after switching him straight onto the hypoallergenic medi cal i feel awful feeding him that stuff. his eyes seem a bit better tonight too, thats probably the antibiotic cream. so maybe a fish based food would be good to try or duck?? i can take a look at them or at least send you the ingredients, unless you are looking for something to do, i would very much appreciate it! Answer: Ya duck, salmon, herring... no wheat/corn etc. There are a lot out there, Fromm has a duck and a salmon formula, California Naturals has Herring and Sweet Potato, Hold on, I'll just get ya the links to the ones I've researched... http://www.frommfamily.com/products.php http://www.wysong.net/Merchant2/merc...roduct_Count=4 http://www.californianaturalpet.com/...lt.asp?id=1338 Those are just the ones I chose as my top 3... there are more. Answer: thank you. you rock!! i will see what i can find in my little tiny town. Answer: Geez, it's so hard to find allergy cat foods. They're all backwards. The fishy ones have chicken anyway- like eagle pack http://www.eaglepack.com/Pages/HS_CatFish.html Even the Fromm Salmon has chicken cartilage and mystery fish. http://www.frommfamily.com/products-fs-c-d-salmon.php If ever Natural Balance gets back on track, their Venison and Pea food might help... http://www.naturalbalanceinc.com/cat...as/VenCat.html I think the best option is the California Natural Herring one, even though it has barley. If your store gets anything Innova, they should be able to order it. Answer: If you ever want to go canned, the california natural salmon would be good: http://www.californianaturalpet.com/...lt.asp?id=1425 Answer: Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.tendlife.com
