5-month-old puppy with bad breath
Question: He is loosing his teeth but I dont recall any of my other pups bleeding a lot when they lost a tooth. When he started to loose teeth that is when is breath started to singe your eyebrows. His teeth appear to be normal puppy teeth, very clean and white, he chews on bones and toys all the time. Is the bleeding and bad breath normal?? Answer: what are you feeding the pup? type of pup? do you brush his teeth? types of bones the pup is allowed to chew on? have you talked to your vet about it? Answer: It depends on what the breath smells like. When puppies are teething, they can sometimes get horrible breath that smells like rotton (but kind of sweet) blood. This is normal. If he's eating, pooping (healthy), playing, and showing no other signs of illness, I wouldn't worry about it. However, if the smell is that bad, then a phone call to your vet is in order to rule anything else out. Answer: Cole lost his baby teeth in two batches. The front ones all came out over a few days one week. Then a week or so later, all the back ones came out. He bled quite a bit on the days he lost teeth and his mouth smelled pretty bad. We called him the Toothless Wonder for a while there. The vet said it was a little unusual for all of them to come out at once like that, but that it was still within the realms of 'normal'. If you're worried, though, a call or trip to the vet would at least set your mind at ease. And if he seems bothered by the teething, one thing we found that Cole loved was an old face washcloth, soaked in water, wrung out, and thrown in the freezer. Chewing on the frozen washcloth seemed to soothe his sore gums. It also seemed to freshen his breath a bit. But watch him close--it's possible for pups to chew pieces out of any cloth, given enough time. Answer: Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.tendlife.com
