Pug in care of pet hospital - still vomiting

Question:
Hello,
I'm really concerned about my 2 1/2 year old pug. She has been in the hospital for the last several days following surgery because she just cannot hold down anything, food or water. She had stones (ammonium urate) removed from her bladder and a fairly large wad of foreign material, yarn, threads, etc. removed from her stomach. She also had biopsies of her liver (history of elevated enzymes) and bladder taken (thickened wall). The vet has tried oral and injected metoclopramide, injected chlorpromazine, injected famotadine and simethicone. The foreign material in the stomach had evidently been there quite a while but not caused a problem until recently. Our vet suspects this is likely all the result of post-op ileus and will resolve in the next day or two. The surgery was four days ago, she acts very normal and very hungry/thirsty. She just keeps vomiting clear/white foamy/slimey emesis and nothing seems to help. She is being maintained on IV fluids for hydration but is losing weight.

I realize this may be a little unusual but I would really appreciate any ideas on how to beat the vomiting.

Thanks

Answer:
It sounds as though your doggy has been through a traumatic bunch of surgeries. I'd be vomiting too. It could be a reaction to the anaesthetic too.

What are you feeding? I'd suggest smaller meals dispersed through the day.

Good luck!

I'm sorry to hear about your little dog's illness. I don't know if this is allowed for dogs, but I thought about ginger. Maybe you could ask your vet about it. I had a Lhasa Apso years back who repeatedly got bladder stones and he used to vomit all the time, just as you described, but not to the extent that he couldn't eat or drink. It must be very worrisome and frustrating for you. Let us know how your dog is doing. Good Luck!
