Blood Clot Buster
Question: My dog was diagnosed with IMHA last week and has been in the hospital since last Wednesday. The Vet previously thought it was Pancreatitis, but after administering antibiotics and also preforming a full bllod count, it showed she was Anemic. She has since been on Prednisone and Cyclosporine, which have brought her blood counts up into the low 30's, which is very good compared to the low twenties she was in last week. She was also given a blood transfusion with the line through her jugular vein. When the line was removed the tech noticed that there was clotting on the end of the line. The Vet then preformed a d-dimer test, which showed if she was clotting and the test showed a level of 500-1000, which does confirm clotting. The Vet called me today and told me that Molly will be going home in a couple of days, but that there is a clot in her jugular vein and is trying to figure out the best clot buster medication she can go home with. He did mention Fragmin, which he said they used for cats, but never dogs or he could send her home with Heprin. I have been trying to get more information on this through the internet, but there is nothing which shows the effects on a dog when you use either of these on a long term basis. Could any of you let me know if you know of any other clot busters that worked and were not harmful to dogs? Thank you! Nancy Answer: Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.tendlife.com
