I have 3 questions please

Question:
okay first question my poor little puppy seems to get constipated about once every couple of weeks is there something I can feed him inbetween to help him not get constapated I feel so sorry for him.

Second question
Does any one know of any good lawn care stuff to help get rid of the ticks and flea's out of the yard. My pup likes to go outside but every time he comes in there is several ticks on him and I would like to find something that works. I have put hertz flea and tick treatment on him did that yesterday.

Last question

In June my puppy has to get fixed what should I expect he is male will there be stitches or is there a site that I can go to look at to help me prepare for this?

Thank you everyone

Answer:
Question 1....try pumkin

Question 2.......don't buy anything for the lawn. Could be very very dangerous for the pup. Talk to vet and see what they have.

Question 3 ....found this website. Might help you but also ask the vet. It's much easier on a male dog then a female.

Answer:
Thank you about how much pumkin should I give him I don't want to over do it LOL

Answer:
What are you feeding him?

Frontline or Advantage will take care of fleas and ticks. I do not recommend spraying any poison on your lawn.

A neuter done on a puppy is a very minor operation, and he should be back to normal in 24 hours. Effects of anesthetic may make him act very strange the night you bring him home,(growling, crying, etc.) but it's nothing to worry about!

Answer:
I don't recommend spray on lawns and I don't recommend any of the topical or oral flea controls myself.

Either way you are having your dog injest or absorb chemicals into their system which is even more dangerous then them just roaming in the yard.

IMHO

Sorry LR... I know many people feel they have little choice when it comes to these things, they don't want infestations and such.

It's a hard call to make but I don't want to use flea control chemicals on my lawn so why put them directly into/onto your pet!?!?!

There are many natural remedies which are supposed to work and I do use 'supposed' to as an example only as I haven't used any myself.

Where is it that you live that you have so many ticks in your yard. I would worry about lyme disease. Do you have deer near you or a lot of field mice?

It's so hard to control these nasty little biting bugs isn't it!!

I'm in the midst myself of doing additional research on natural remedies for flea and tick control. When I get enough information, I am going to post it for others to see as well so they can make healthy decisions for them and their pets.

Answer:
Okay I am feeding him Hills science diet.

I live in oklahoma and it just did not get very cold this winter and so we have so many ticks and flea's everyone is complaining about them. We don't have alot of field mice we live in town and there are no deer.

I am not only wanting to control them for the dog but for my children as well they seem to love my daughter and I don't want them getting sick from tick bites and yes they are very hard to control I hate ticks and flea's they rate right up there with roaches YUCK

Answer:
I've posted a new topic in the General forum regarding natural alternatives, go take a peek. I'm sure yu would be pleasantly surprised. ]

Answer:
After many discussions with many knowledgable dog people, Science Diet's regular dog food is about 1 step above McDonald's hamburgers. Also a bit pricey for the quality. That could be part of your problem.

Add garlic to your dogs diet. About a teaspoon on his kibble should slow your insect problem down dramatically. Or you could add a garlic pill, like you would find at a health food store. I know this works, spent a lot of time in the woods in Europe with my collie and a friend's golden retriever. GR got no garlic and was covered with ticks at the end of the day - Collie had none.

Haven't had a male neutered in years so I am not sure about the stitches. If the vet gives you pain pills for him, however, I would not give them to the dog. You want to keep the dog quiet for a couple of days afterwards. Neutering should not cause pain unless you step on him, just some discomfort, which should slow him down a bit.

Answer:
The darn CONE collar is the worst part of the whole operation. Tell your vet to forget the collar and get him some cream (Veritan) to put on the wound so he won't lick it. Honest to God, it will save him complete and utter embarassment and will save your legs and your walls!!! And the cream is cheaper than that stupid piece of plastic around your dogs neck!!! Trust me, we just went through this a month ago!!!

Answer:
Agree with LavendarRott - Science diet is not good food. Put your pup on a better quality food.

Answer:
Good point on the cream catt

Answer:
Thanks to you, Luba Booba!!!

LMAO (sorry I had to add that in, its just wayyyyy too funny!!)

Answer:
I LOVE Luba Booba

Answer:
Okay if that is not a good food for my dog then what should I get for him? I was told that this was the best for him when I got him so that is what I bought and that is what he was on anyway and I did not want to upset his tummy.

Thank you for the natural things for ticks and flea's.

I will remember that I don't want the cone but I want the cream Thank you for that information.

Answer:
Just out of curiosity, was it your vet that told you it was so great? Most vets have a total of a semester of nutrional training in college and Hill's pays them to sell their food.

I am not sure where you live, so I will tell you what to look for in ingredients of a good dog food. First, check the first 5 ingredients. If they are mostly grains, or meat-by-products, then put it back on the shelf. Meat-by-products are garbage scraps. If it just says meat-by-products then you could be feeding your dog-dog. Dogs can't digest corn or soy products well either.

Before switching my dogs to a raw food diet, they ate Canidae. It is one of the best foods on the market and my cats eat Felidae. Made by the same company. Costs a little more but makes less poo because the animals utilize the ingredients better.

Answer:
Vets will just try to sell you what they make the most profit on and whatever company gives them the most freebies!

I agree with LavR

Answer:
Well no it was not the vet that said to get it but it was the humane socity where I got him from. I have never heard of Canidae around here. I live in Oklahoma in a mid sized town but really we have 1 pet store and they sell hill's then there is wal mart, and one other place that sells food for animals I will go in there someone told me that they have a 50 pound bag of food there that is all natural I don't know what is in it I will check and see.

Answer:
Product descriptions can be deceiving

All natural may not be what you think!

Be wary

Read labels and know they don't always include everything!
