Catnip and Dogs

Question:
My King Charles recently ate a couple of my daughters Catnip toys. She is currently acting sluggishly and does not enjoy her walks. There is no sickness and she is eating and going to toilet normally. Is this a result of consuming the catnip?

Answer:
I really can't tell you one way or the other however I can share with you the experiences I have had with dogs and catnip filled toys.
My dogs, I have 5, will destroy an cat nip filled mouse in short order. Even my toy poodle will rag and gum one to death. The G.S will eat them cloth and all.
I don't give them to the dogs they just find them laying around where the cats have left them and gooble gooble..!!!
None have even sustained any ill effects although the cloth covering of the catnip mouse can't do their digestive tracts any good.
I just have never seen an ill effect of the cat nip on my dogs but that doesn't mean it couldn't upset a tummy or two.
Maybe someone on the board will have better information for you.

Answer:
I don't know about the effect of catnip on dogs, but am wondering if, in a dog as small as a King Charles, if the cloth and/or any strings attached to the toy could be causing a problem?

Answer:
The strings could be wraped around the intestine! This can kill a dog without an operation. I'd take him to the vet ASAP.

Answer:
ya, for sure...

Chocolate LOVED stealing cat nip from the cats' toys...

lol

so i wouldnt believe cat nip's bad for dogs, it's basically dried up grass.

i'd lean more heavily on the string/cloth theory. or maybe its something even totally unrelated... get it checked out, if u feel its highly unusual
