Sick kitty or simply hairballs?
Question: I have a cat who seems to be trying to vomit today but I haven't seen anything come of it so far. She spends a great deal of time outside, so I haven't been able to monitor her too well. She has been eating okay. I have given her some tuna with petrolatum a couple of times today. She also has had an odd sounding meow since yesterday. It is very weak and hoarse sounding. I am feeling a little panicky because we just lost our dog Saturday because of antifreeze poisoning. I am sure that's not her problem, but I am still very sad about our dog,(Sam, we had him nine years) and I am afraid of losing another beloved pet. Could this possibly be a hairball problem? I will see how she is acting in the morning and make a call whether to visit the vet. She is current on vaccinations. Any input will be welcomed. Answer: Well the problem with an outdoor cat is you don't know if the cat is actually injured or perhaps has something stuck in it's throat like a bone that it got from the garbage. No vomit so this sounds more distressing to me. Pls get the cat to a vet soon Sorry for the loss of your dog, how did he get into antifreeze? Pls keep a close eye on your cat and please keep her indoors. If you want her to enjoy the outdoors put a harness on her and take her out with you to the yard but not to just roam free. I would shudder to think what a cat can get into and people can be cruel to poison them as well! Answer: I'm sure you don't want to lose your cat too. Vet now. Answer: I took my cat to the vet this evening and he couldn't really find anything. She had a degree of temp. and he was saying something about her eyes having a little haze. They were watery. She seemed to feel better after we came home. He gave her a shot and sent some antibiotics home with us to try for a few days. If she still isn't better he said to bring her back for blood work. She still eats just fine. My dog drank the antifreeze out of a bucket in our garage while my husband was working on my car. My husband didn't know how lethal it was. If he had known he would have taken him to the vet at 1:00 in the morning right after it happened. By the way, my cat's name is Pizza because we found her behind a Pizza Hut after a Christmas parade two years ago. The name just stuck. Answer: Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.tendlife.com
