Running with dogs

Question:
I have a 13 month old Golden Retriever/Standard Poodle cross and would like to bring him running with me. I am concerned about damaging his bones or joints while he is growing. At what age is it safe for him to accompany me?

Answer:
There should be no problems taking the dog running. I have taken my dogs hiking walking running since they were pups. They love it and still do.

Answer:
13 months should be old enough since your dog is not a giant or x-large breed and his joints should be done growing. To be safe you may want to quickly contact your vet and ask over the phone.

Since Oliver is not yet a year I have, on occasion, had to pick him up and carry him when terrain got to be steeper for longer periods than bargained for. Thank God he is still less than 20 pounds!! Will be glad for him to turn a year I can tell you!!

Answer:
I'd just be careful what surface you run on, hard stone / pavement would be hard on the pads and joints.

Just take a water bottle / collapsable dish with ya so neither of yu dehydrate and enjoy!

Answer:
I started taking Choco on jogs/runs from the age of 7 months... they were SHORT though. lol, mommy's *ahem* chest can't keep up for more than 10 min

walks ARE better

Answer:
Aggie put on roller blades and let those two pull u around high park

Actually most dogs will learn to drink from a water bottle too... they will lap it up as you squeeze the bottle to provide flow.

We tried this when we walked at a large dog park in Halifax... the ground water was.. questionable, the dogs took to it well and prefered to drink from the bottle, rather than a puddle. Just get a regular water bottle from the sports store (they work better - better flow - than the tops on water bottles that you buy from the corner store)

Answer:
Ya thats what I mean
SAdie drinks from my bottle but my other dog was water shy and never wanted to
cup ur hand and there ya go

Answer:
I found that the dogs would get bad gas from licking the bottle. so what i did was get a frisbee and put the water in there and after if they want can play with it. But they don't really like the hard frisbees. But prefer the more expensive clothe ones

Answer:
LMAO! Luba, dont u DARE suggest something so suicidal as roller blades with those wild beasts!!

amaruq, EXCELLENT frisbee idea~!~!

I've started using a regular bag.... just fill it u with water at the water fountain, can't go wrong... and if there's left over, LOL, yup. I've carried it before (it was in high park, so i didn't look THAT ridiculous)

Answer:
What don't you have them under control by now Aggie ? Come on it would be fun !!

Answer:
"control"? what's that? is that when Honey climbs onto my lap regardless of invitation or when Chocolate attacks Honey on the bed when I'm trying to SLEEP?

hmm... I *think* the "control" u MAY be refering to is when they bark to tell me when there's someone at the front door.. or when they want the door opened to the outdoors...
