Duck Toller with a swollen eyelid

Question:
My 5 month old Toller has had a swollen eyelid (not shut, thankfully) that looks like it may have had a scratch on it. Can't tell for sure.

Has anyone had an infection that has caused a swollen eyelid? It doesn't seem to bother him too much and his whites are clear but am still a little apprehensive but don't want to race down to the vet for every little scrape..

Answer:
Really examine the wound....see if it could be a bee bite...look for stinger. I wouldn't call the vet just yet and if it really swells then yes or change in behavior. If your super super careful you can clean wound with peroxide. But none can go into eye.

Answer:
Thanks for the quick reply. I will swab with peroxide and maybe try putting some polysporin on. Is that allright to apply?

Answer:
Be careful with the eye area infection can spread fast and cause vision loss.
You should not just try to care for this yourself your dog should see a vet.
Esp if you don't know the cause of the inflammation

DO NOT use peroxide or polysporin by the eye. Get advise from your VET!

Answer:
Do NOT put peroxide on this. Peroxide destroys tissues, and in such a delicate area could cause severe problems.

Answer:
Oh Oh did I give bad advice? I usually use peroxide to clean a wound. I agree not to put it in the eye though. That would be rather nasty.

Answer:
We all learn! Is okay dokay!
