Oh Happy Day!

Question:
Hi everyone! Well, my vet called me last night and asked if I was ready for a new kitten. I hesitated, and then said yes after I thought about Stella sleeping outside the bathroom door (she always sleeps with us in bed) for the past two nights thinking that Lucy was in there. My vet had been fostering a litter of kittens that were found with their mother in a building about to be demolished. The kitten (8 weeks old) already had it's first set of shots, deworming and leukemia/aids tests done...she gave her to me for free. The vet office even sent me flowers and a sympathy card...I was pleasantly surprised. Anyway, now I have wonderful new kitten...with no name. I've attached some pictures with the hopes that someone can give me some name suggestions. After having this one for only about 24 hours, I realize how sick Lucy really was. This kitten goes non-stop. I can't believe how much energy she has and she is very naughty , but nothing that I wouldn't expect from an eight week old kitten. She's smart enough to have already learned how to drink out of Stella's water bottle...I should take a picture...she stands on her back legs and holds the water bottle with her two front legs like a bottle, it's really quite cute. Her and Stella immediately made friends and now they run around causing all sorts of trouble. So, I'm glad I got another kitten sooner than later and this one is healthy!!! She does have some diarrhea, but she was just dewormed on Thursday and had normal stools before that. I wanted to thank everyone for EVERYTHING!!! You all helped me through a very rough situation. Thanks again. And, any name suggestions for this little booger?

Answer:
OMG OMG you got a little booger....oh but wait don't call her a little booger hahahhha!! Thats great I am so happy for you and Stella ahhhh
so very nice

Okay my name offerings:

Raven, Coal, Monique (just looks like a Monique) LOL

Answer:
Tc,I am sooo happy for you,Stella(the dogs name?)and the little booger
My little black Chico looked like your booger,my son named him Chico because of his Chicory colour.A girl kitty,I don't know, the first name that came to my mind was Muffin, because she looks yummie and sweet
But that's not very imaginative! Maybe Chica,Willow,Annie,Luba(ooops )Anita,Peggy,Mona,Maxie

Answer:
Awwww- look at that sweet baby! I suggest you call her "Jet", both for her colour and her non-stop rocketing around!

Answer:
Hey LR...you gave me an idea! I liked Jet but it sounded like a boys name, so we named her Jetta! Pretty cute, huh? And, not one you hear of often. So everyone, thanks for the suggestions and our new kitten is now named Jetta. I will keep everyone updated as to how Jetta is doing, right now she's jumping on Stella

Answer:
YEAH Jetta!! woo hoo

Answer:
Jetta is a great name, somehow it makes me think she should have four wheels though (Wolkswagen Jetta )
We all know you will be a wonderful mom.....hows Stella doing with her,she must be a very good dog

Answer:
I was going to suggest the name Jem, or Jewel. I hope everything goes well for you.

Answer:
Well, Jetta and Stella are getting along wonderfully. They just managed to rip down the sheet I had blocking the heat from going up into our finished attic. I have a feeling I am going to have my hands full with this one. When she uses the litterbox, she insists on kicking half of the litter out of the box...guess I will have to switch to an adult hooded litter box soon Does anyone use soft claws? Jetta loves to scratch the furniture (yes, already) despite the two nice scratching posts that she has. I read on the soft claws website that they can be put on kittens starting at 12 weeks old...has anyone tried them?

Answer:
Haha - sounds like your new baby is making herself right at home!

I suggest clipping her nails regularly. It's good to get her used to that at a very young age. Do it when she is sleepy, or actually sleeping. Talk soothingly and give lots of pets while you do it. If she protests after a couple nails, leave it for another day.

Teach her to use the scratch posts. Put some catnip on them, and tie a little dangly toy to the top. You can encourage her to use it by very gently taking her little paws and moving them in the motion of scratching the post. She'll catch on!

Put one where she spends most of her time, and another near her feeding area.

Answer:
Oh,the wonderful life of kitten-hood
I have never heard of soft-claws,but as long as it is not about mutilation like de-clawing I guess it would be ok,but I suspect to put anything on a cats paws would be a waste of time and money.
Like Lucky says, keep her nails nice and trimmed, but only the tip of the nails.
It is possible to teach a kitten not to scratch furniture, many firm NO's and move her from the couch to the scratch-post when you catch her.
An easy soloution is to close the livingroom door and only let her in there when you're there, like I do...but you might not have a door to your LR.
You'll never have a completely scratch free cat, cats are cats after all,we've been through a lot of couches over the years,we now have leather in the LR and an Ultra-Suede(fake suede)sectional in my den and they do not like to scratch either
My husband built a cat-tree for them and it really helps too, here it is..

Answer:
AWWWWWWWWWWWW she is simply beautiful tc.

Congradulations.
