dog in heat?

Question:
Hi, I have a two year old male neutered pointer and a one year old spayed beagle. We have had them together for a year this May. The past two days my pointer has become very aggressive towards the beagle to the point where he snaps onto her and really tires to pull her. They have always wrestled in the past so I know what playing is and this is far more aggressive.

They used to sleep cuddled together and now he snaps and bears his teeth if she lies down with him, if she licks the dishtowel on the stove (favorite thing to do) he comes right over snaps at her like it's his territory. Also he is far more protective over us and doesn't like when she jumps on us.

I have also noticed that for the first time since he has been neutered his is getting..well I don't know the correct term but we call it "lipsticky" or I guess "turned on" (nicknamed because of how it looks like a lipstick tube...don't ask its just how we refered to it) and that is unusual. Will a neutered dog go into heat? How long would it last? and are these typical results of that? Thanks

Answer:
Male dogs don't go into heat.

As for the aggression in him,I will have to let the experts answer that...

Answer:
Hey aren't all males cranky???? lol joking!

Hmmm maybe there is something bothering him? Did you check the ears?

Answer:
My non-expert opinion is that cats and dogs although neutered still get THOSE feelings,my cats certainly do,trying to mount each other(all males) or getting very cozy with a fluffy blanket
The aggression I don't know about, but it can sometimes get a little hairy

Thats funny but not I know!

Neutered dogs can still get excited and yes it can be embarassing.

Let him hump an old pillow and be done with it!!

So he is making the decisions about what will and will not be allowed regarding your other dog.

You need to make him understand that YOU call the shots. He doesn't like it? Tough. When he reacts to something like this, put him in a sit or a down so he learns that this behavior will not be rewarded.

It's fine if he is the dominant one above the beagle. You can reinforce this by feeding him first, petting him first, letting him go out the door ahead of the beagle - BUT you are still in charge.

If he has been checked out and found to be healthy and normal, then I think it may be time for Doggie Boot Camp!!!

He is coming into full maturity now and may just be getting a little too uppity for his own good.

And yes, neutered male dogs can still get aroused and can even tie with a female.
