Overeating Cat

Question:
I know it's normal for cats to nibble all day long cause my older one does but he only eats a few pieces each time just hundreds of times a day!! The problem is our new cat. We've had her for 3months now and she's a 2.4year old spayed tabby. All she wants to do it eat all the time and she doesn't just eat a little bit, she really digs in. But it doesn't stop there, she begs when we eat our breakfast, lunch and dinner!!! I thought only dogs were meant to do that!!!

We've recently started giving her 1/2cup dry food each in the morning and night to stop her rapid weight gain but she meows constantly during the day at her food bowl and this has been going on two weeks and she still hasn't got the message this is the way it's going to be from now on! We even tried taking her empty food bowl away completely to stop reminding her of the smell but she just sits in the spot where we feed her and meows.

How much should she be getting. Could she have worms or something else causing her to want more and more food?? We initially thought it was a bad habit from her previous owner but she should've got used to the way we are feeding her now, shouldn't she??

Answer:
There very well could be a medical condition causing the excessive eating.

Answer:
Stray cats who starved often have this obsession with food, but you say your cat came from a home.

What did the previous owners feed her? A cup of food a day sounds like a lot and if she's gaining a lot of weight then it's too much.

What kind of food are you feeding? I would have her checked out by the vet and tested for worms to start with.
