Our long hair chihuahua, about 11 weeks old, makes a snorting and coughing sound when he wakes up. What could be causing this sound. We went to the Vet for his checkup before he started making this sound. Any advice appreciated. Thanks. Darren Wu.

You will have to take him back to the vet. Very small dogs and puppies sometimes have trouble with the trachea, but it could be a number of things.

Please check with your vet but this could be a reverse sneeze.

It happens. Small breeds are more prone to it, although larger breeds can scare one with it also. I have one myself. Not a problem as long as you understand what it is.
Still, call your vet, you will sleep better arming yourself with knowledge.
