My cat occassionally seems to "faint" after vomiting

Question:
He is a 14 year old indoor cat who is leash-trained to go outside with us . Like most cats, he enjoys eating grass and often vomits afterwards. I am not bothered about the vomiting because all cats seem to do it. However, very occasionally, right after vomiting, he acts very strangely, fainting is not completely accurate as he does not loose conciousness. He moves very very slowly, then he stops and kind of "freezes". It's like slow-motion. He's not limp, nor is he rigid, his eyes are open. When I see this happen, I tend to pick him up to be sure he is still breathing. Then, after a short time, less than a minute, he seems to recover although he is very subdued. I have mentioned this to the vet who checked his heart but did not seem to have an answer. I have seen him do this a few times over the years and it may happen more often when I am not around. It only seems to happen after vomiting so I wonder if it is connected to him becoming breathless or something. Has anyone any ideas please?

Answer:
I am no vet, but I do work with children with special needs and if you said that was a child... from my experience,I would suspect a seizure.....freezing and slowing down along with vomitting can all be taken as a small seizure....

What is your cat like afterwards????Frisky or subdued....any notable changes?

I know animals can get these but i wanted to mention this to you because it may be worth asking the vet about the possibilities...

I had a dog who walked in a circle with its eyes closed for about 20 seconds....happened twice in its life but this was considered a seizure also.....never got in the way of her long life...

I could be way off base here and am not trying to diagnose, I just wanted to give you a thought to question about....

Please keep us posted...Kimmee

Answer:
Yes, I had considered seizures but, because this only seems to happen after he has vomited after eating grass, I suspected that it was as a result of the vomiting not a cause in itself. Naturally I don't want it to be anything more serious and if it doesn't get worse I won't worry about it. Otherwise he is so far in excellent health so I don't want to go looking for problems!!
