My usually playful, active, ornery puppy whines when I pick him up as if something hurts, he's just laying around, but is defecating ok, eating alright. I noticed a soft lump below his left rib. When you touch or pet the area he whimpers but is ok if I just hold him quietly on my lap. He got a hold of a piece of chicken last week, and ate the whole thing! What could be wrong? Please advise.

Your puppy may have a bone lodged in his stomach or intestines. Could and very liekly will kill him. Take him to a vet at once.
