Swollen Lymph nodes
Question: last saturday i took my cheyenne to the vet (chiuahua and terrier) because i thought he wasnt feeling well. This year he has had really bad allergies. The vet said he was fine. It was just allergies. He was due his shots, so i got them. I am not a person to get shots every year. I dont believe in over vaccination or in unde vaccination. Anyways by moday he was really mopey. On tuesday we were back at the vet. His lymph nodes in his neck and his front legs were swollen (they werent on saturday) and the site where he had gotten his shot was swollen also. He was having trouble breathing out of his nose. Vet perscribed Baytril every 12hrs. Went back on Tuesday and got a subQ because he wasnt eating and drinking was from my finger only. Ran a desert panel. Went to the vet on thursday and his lymph nodes in his neck on the right side went down some but not on the left. The site where the shots were given was enlarged. WEnt back to the vet on saturday the site where the shots was given is still inflamed. He now has two new lumps on the back of his neck. His left lymph glands are still just as swollen and so are theglands in front of his front legs. Back legs are fine. Right glands are still swollen but not as bad. still is running a temp (has been all along). desert panel came back as negitive for valley fever and tick fever. aspirated lymph nodes to see what it is. He prescribed clavamox to take along with the Baytril. plus i am still suppose to give him his benedryl 2 to 3 times a day. Vet said ah Trudi he will be fine. I am very concerned. Of course i expressed this to him and etc. He said that he feels that there is an infection that is coming from the region that the shots were given in. He said that it is draining to the neck and the nodes because thats what it does. He said to call him immediately if the ones on the back of the neck get bigger. Im still doing cold compresses and baths to take he fever down. He will only eat cooked chicken. He drinks very litttle. Is not dehydrated. The assistant at the vet said he looked better than what he did before but still looks sick but bettr. his nose is still congested but at least he can sleep with out having trouble breathing through his nose. he still has that problem but not as much as he did. i have never had this happen to an animal after they have gotten shots. i would welcome any advice or comments from vets and members. please do not get the wrong idea about me. I am very vet active. If my companion is sick we are at the vet that day. If the need surgery than we are doing surgery. I dont mess around with them because they are my babies. ITs my responsibility. So i guess I am hoping for some good news out there. Maybe someone else has had this happen to them? We will find out the results if its cancer or exactly what its is by tuesday. His nodes were not swollen until he got his shots. So I dont know. Please have healing thoughts for him and all animals. Thanks so much for reading this. sincerly, Trudi and Cheyenne twitchey@msn.com update: blood tests came back...no cancer...the results are "reactive lymph nodes" meaning: he had a really serious reaction to HIS SHOTS"!!!! Answer: Trudi, I have never had anything like this happen, although I know that dogs can have bad reactions to their shots. I just wanted to say I have my fingers crossed for you and Cheyenne.
