Cat with Feline Leukemia and eye problem - visene?

Question:
We have a long-haired Maine Coon who was recently diagnosed with Feline Leukemia. He had developed and eye infection and what looked like a cold, which was what originally prompted the vet visit.

The eye infection cleared up but it has returned, and despite being treated with both anti-bacterial ointment and other products, it has persisted for over a month now. He seems to be in pain, and I was wondering if I might be able to use some human eye drops like visene to ease his suffering. Will this damage his eyes or cause further inflammation?

Answer:
This sounds like another trip to the vet....it's never a good idea to administer human "drugs" to your pets without consultation! I would simply vist your vet again and insist that your visit be free of charge (or a decreased charge) because the first "cure" didn't work. I would go as soon as possible, don't let the poor thing suffer any longer - it's not fair...

Answer:
I am sorry to hear that,Maine Coons are in my opinion the most beautiful good natured cats of all cats. Please see the vet again...Good Luck!

Answer:
OH, sorry to hear this.:( It's heartbreaking! I once had a cat with leukemia. I opted for no treatment, since this is 100% fatal.

Agree that you shouldn't use human meds on cats.
