Aftercare for Neutered Dogs

Question:
I am wondering how long the cone is supposed to stay on the dog after he is neutered. He is 1.5 years old. The girl at the Vet (not the Vet himself) said to leave it on for 10 days but that sounds like a little too much and quite uncomfortable for the dog. If someone can please let me know asap, that would be great!

Answer:
Taz had his on him for just a day - he didn't touch his stitches so I left it off during the day and put it back on during the night. Ask the vet for some cream it helps to heal and they don't like the taste of it so won't lick it!

Answer:
Thanks very much for the advice. What I will do is take it off when we are with him to see how he is about it and if he starts licking the wound, we can put it back on. I didn't know if there was any danger in taking it off. 10 days would be awfully uncomfortable and the poor little guy likes to sniff Thanks again for the advice

Answer:
That is what I would do. Just watch him really close and make sure becuase if he starts messing with it get it right back on there. And make sure you put it back on at night because you can not watch him than. Good luck and keep us updated!

Answer:
If you have some roll-on, underarm deodorant, apply some around the incision but not on it. He'll leave it alone. He may try one lick, but it will be only once. It is quite entertaining to see how many funny faces a dog can make after that one lick. It's nasty stuff, taste it yourself...I hate E-collars. They freak a dog out too much and prevent them from eating & drinking properly. The only time we ever used them was when a dog (or cat) was hospitalized on I.V. fluids and NPO anyway..

Answer:
Chocolate didn't need any E-cone after he was neutered.... I wonder what's the difference btw ur dog's surgery and Choco's
