15 month female lab/beagle loosing excessive amount of hair
Question: My female lab/beagle (15 months old) has been loosing an excessive amount of hair lately. She was fixed 2 months ago and she is up to date on her shots. I started giving her Omega vitamins. Is this normal to have your floor and carpet covered with hair on a daily basis? I know that the dog will shed at this time of the year but it seems to be excessive. Help Answer: Labs are notorious for shedding. My mom has a Cheseapeake Bay Retriever and she has to sweep the floor every day! Brush your dog everyday, 2 or 3 times a day if need be, and it should be better. Also changing your dog'd diet may do the trick! More exercise can also make a big difference. If he's not losing hair in spots, then it's probably normal. You can get it checked by your vet to make sure everything is fine. Answer: If there isn't any bald spots and not reddening of the skin or scratching then I wouldn't worry so much, it's a dumping of the coat! You can supplement the diet with vitamin e and fish oil which will help the coat tremendously. If your dog isn't afraid of vacuum cleaners I find they're really good and gettinga lot of the hair out, use the upholstery brush attachment Answer: Luba, you made me laugh,I would LOVE to be able to vaccum my cats, but just the sight of the vaccum and they are hanging off the ceiling-fan Answer: Thank-you everyone for your comments and suggestions. I have made a vet appointment for Missey this coming Thursday so we'll hopefully get some answere. Answer: Don't let the vet talk you into steroids, allergy meds, prednisone, antibiotics without a thorough explanation. Try the supplements, it takes time to work and they can't harm anything Answer: Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.tendlife.com
