foaming at mouth
Question: My cat was screeching at another cat and I managed to stop the fight. When my cat jumped back over the fence his mouth was full of foam and his chest was wet. I was scared it was a sign of rabies, but he calmed down and has been fine the last two days with no recurrences. What could the foam have been caused by? :( Answer: I really don't know about the foam, but if you are going to let your cat out, he should be vaccinated against rabies. Answer: I had a cat once,Cookie,a female, when she got very excited or angry she would slobber all over the place and get all foamy, she was perfectly healthy. But you should tell your vet about what happened. Answer: It's an "old wives tale" that rabid animals foam at the mouth. Simply not true. Sometimes, an animal with the "dumb" form of the virus will have excessive drooling and a blank stare. (much like some people I know, lol!) Sounds like your cat was very nervous. Answer: I don't know anything about cats but dogs will sometimes foam when they are eating. At least mine do ( did ) Answer: Oh yes, dogs can "foam" too. Sorry Chaney. I have seen m/n dogs chatter and foam when a female is present, especially if they were neutered after maturity. I know a few that will drool & froth when bad weather is near. Nerves...we all have them. Some handle them better than others. Answer: Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.tendlife.com
