Can dogs take antiacids?

Question:
Recently my chihuahua got into a bag of beef jerky. He ate the entire bad in a matter of minutes! I very rarely give him human food. Will this make is stomach upset? Can we give him an antiacid chewable to calm his gas? Please advise. Thanks!

Answer:
You could call your local emergency vet and they can probably tell you over the phone if you need to get him in or wait til morning and what possible problems could occur and what to watch for.

Answer:
Yes, you can give your dog antacids, as a matter of fact, my Vet suggested it to me for my dog to help his stomach handle the pain meds he was on. The smallest effective dose should always be used. Because your's is a small dog, I would suggest half an antacid to start. Good luck!

Answer:
A dog that small eating that much jerky could develop a serious blockage. I suggest you call your vet ASAP.

Answer:
Definately call the vet ASAP...

Do not give him anything until he is checked by the vet.
