Aurora/Newmarket/Keswick Vet Reccomendation?
Question: *this is a crosspost from another forum so you might see it in more then one place. apologies in advance* I a moving to Keswick in about three and a half weeks. And so begins the long and painful process of finding a new vet. I am asking my current vet among other people however I would be interested to know if any of you have experience with any good vets in the Aurora/Newmarket/Keswick area? I'm interested in personal experiences that you found above and beyond a normal vet or at the very least a vote of confidence for someone you've had experience with. Any thoughts? Dee Answer: Just an update on the attached. I have found a GREAT vet in Keswick for anyone who is in the area and looking. South Shore Vet at Ravenshoe and Leslie. I've been told that they can be pricier then some but their service so far has been outstanding. For example, they've found a few things about my beagle that my previous vet never even commented on let along diagnosed. She's got a paralyzed 7th facial nerve which I previously thought was just an overgrown lip. My previous vet either didn't notice or didn't care. This vet pointed it out right away. Also, after my visits, they call the next day or so just to see how things are doing. And, when I had to take my girl to the emergency vet late at night one night due to nausea, they called first thing the next day after receiving the report to make sure things were alright. Granted, I know vets are a profitable business however this vet seems keen to offer customer service (like phone calls and advice) that is above and beyond what they can bill for, or at the very least what is commonly offered. Just wanted to offer this up as i'm very pleased with what i've seen. Dee Answer: Dee I am very happy for you!!!! Sounds like you've found someone that really cares. How's your baby feeling now? What was the nausea all about? Answer: Oh she's fine. Not sure what was wrong. She had thrown up the day before but I wasn't too worried as she has a bit of a sensitive stomach. However the day following, the day we took her to the emergency, we were all on the couch watching a movie and Sneaks just threw up with no warning. It was really foul, almost like undigested dinner which she had eaten 5 hours earlier. Then, it happened another 3 times in the course of about 15 mins. Of course she was totally fine by the time we got to the vet 20 minutes later. The vet is thinking that it could have been a bug, something she had eaten. This is of course the same dog that has a thing for uncooked pasta . Then she wonders why she's not feeling well. They gave her a shot of Pepcid and put her on a special food for a day. She's been totally fine since. Toby, my foster, has had the majority of the work done there though and they seem to have taken a real interest. When I got him, he had a hotspot, a callous on his elbow and a cloudy eye. Now we know he's got a bad thyroid as well. On top of all that he still needs to be vaccinated and neutered! heh None of which we can do until his health is better of course though :(. Dee Answer: WOW girl you've had your hands full! My dane has calloused elbows....is this indicative of anything to worry about? I just thought it was a harmless trait. What did your vet say about Toby's callous? My brother just moved back to Keswick and is working for and living with my father. He says I wouldn't recognize it these days, it has grown so much. Answer: On his first visit they said the callous was one of two things: A sore from lying in the pound for a long period of time or a tumour which can apparently develop in that area and look similar to a callous. They said to monitor it and if it grew, they'd look at it. Well within a week of being home with me, the hair on it started to grow back so its definately just a callous. They said that there's a possibility that it will never go away completely because its so big but it doesn't appear to be hurting him so it doen't matter. His hair will just look odd there. I'd have your vet look at it just in case. Danes and beags are different. I just moved from Scarborough so Keswick seems tiny to me even now. I have heard though that it is growing by leaps and bounds. Probably doubled in size over the last 10 years my neighbour said. Dee Answer: Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.tendlife.com
