Update on Billy and Petey's Weigh-ins!
Question: I took both boys into the vet today for their weigh-in's. It was only an appointment for Billy, but I decided to bring Petey along as well since I was curious to know how his little diet was going. Good news on both of them! Billy has gained almost TWO POUNDS already!!!! He was down to 7 pounds on 8/10 and now he's already at 8.8 pounds! I am so happy! Our goal is 10 pounds or really, even more, since it doesn't really matter if he gets fat at this point. We upp'd his dose of pednisone to account for the higher weight. They couldn't believe he gained so fast! That's more like my old kitty again, loving his food! Petey lost 5 pounds so is down to 58 pounds now! Yay! This is exactly where we wanted him to be, so he can go off the W/D a little early! So now I've got to find new maintenance food for him. He's got a few weeks left of the W/D, so I'll mix it with whatever food I find for him to wean him off it. I used to get him food from a local company, but I can't seem to get ahold of them anymore, so I think I'll go to Petsmart tomorrow and see what they carry. I'm sure they have Wellness or Solid Gold there. But anyway, just had to share the good news on the boys! Steph Answer: Aww, Steph, that is super news. I've been wondering about Billy lately and glad to hear that he is doing so well. And, kudos to Petey for toughing it out on a diet. BTW, I posted a reply in the dog food forum re Wellness. Answer: Thanks Rainbow!!! I am so pleased as well! My family is visting with me right now, so I have a houseful of guests at the moment. They hadn't seen Billy for a while and were shocked at how thin he looked! They barely believe me that he's actually looking a lot better right now than he did a month ago! To me, he looks great! So he still has a ways to go, but I was so encouraged by his weight gain so far. And Billy is loving the food free-for-all. I actually feel kind of bad for Petey right now since he sees me offering Billy food non-stop and gets so jealous! So I've been giving him tiny little tastes of the Merricks and baby food just to make it seem more "fair" to him, LOL! Just a dab on my finger for him to lick. I wonder how aware he is? Like does he see his food getting cut back (for his diet) and see Billy getting more? He sure seems to realize it's happening! Poor Petey! Answer: That's great new...I keep hoping for a happy post from you! Give Billy a headscritch for me and a good belly rub for Petey.... I will keep you guys in my thoughts, Kimmee Answer: Great news! But anyway, just had to share the good news on the boys! Way to go on the weight loss! It took a whole summer of power walking, bush trail walking and playing the back yard, on top of restrictions of food intake to do the same. I'm not sure about where you are, but the really good foods, like the ones you've mentioned aren't available at the PetSmart's around here. I have found that while food at PetValue or Berry's is slightly more expensive, they have a better selection of higher end foods. My guy is on Performatrim Ultra Salmon and Rice from PetValue. Its a weight loss and maintenance food (gives the false impression of fullness). He has a sensitive stomach and this food agrees with him. A word of warning though, the bag portion says he should get 1.5 cups per day but he only needs to eat 1/3 cup twice daily to be full (doesn't leave any behind, yet doesn't look for more either) and maintain his now muscular build. Answer: Thanks guys! I'll give them both a hug from everyone! Answer: That's great news, I think 2lbs is quite a bit of gain for a kitty. Answer: Thanks Maya! We thought so too! My vet was actually very surprised! He gained it in only a month! Wow! Answer: Originally Posted by PetFriendly Way to go on the weight loss! Hi Petfriendly! I ended up starting a different thread on food for Petey in the food forum, but just wanted to say that you were right! Petsmart didn't carry those brands! But I searched online and found a few good possibilities from other local companies! I'm sure Petey hasn't enjoyed his summer diet, but he looks great now! Lots of walking and about four months of W/D did it for him. Steph Answer: Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.tendlife.com
