Parakeet in Trouble
Question: I have a very sick parakeet at the moment and I don’t know what is wrong with him. His showing very strange behavior for a two year old parakeet, and I’m now starting worry. For the past two days now all his has been doing is nothing but sleeping. He seems to be eating and drinking ok but he seems very weak at the moment. His left eye looks a little swollen and red. I don’t know any other to put this but his poop look very normal. He hasn’t been talking much, and keeps to him self most of the time. Now his personality has all ways been a little different. Since I’ve had the parakeet his all ways been a little high stressed at times even for no reason at all, and his never been a great flyer. Now I’ve noticed he eats a lot more than a parakeet should, and don’t know if that is normal. But when that happens a bump will show above his rectum. Now I’ve had that checked but a Veterinarian who specializes in birds. He clamed that happens because he eats way to much, and it pushes down on his insides. But that is just one of his problems. Now I got thing to deal with and I’m at a loose for once. I would medicate the bird but I don’t know what I’m medicating. If he was an older bird then I would most likely have him put down. But for a two year old parakeet this just doesn’t make any sense to me. Any opinions on what’s wrong with him or what I should do? Here are 3 picture I took just now of him. www.tigerraptorfx.com/Misc/IM000360.JPG www.tigerraptorfx.com/Misc/IM000363.JPG www.tigerraptorfx.com/Misc/IM000366.JPG Answer: I know little about bird illness, but the swollen eye sounds like it could be a respiratory infection. Your avian vet could best tell you what it is. Do not give birds any medication without consulting a vet. Answer: Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.tendlife.com
