hit by a car

Question:
My little 7 lb Toy Fox Terrier was hit by a car. The vet told me he has a toren diaphragm and hit liver and stomach are trying to get inside the chest cavity. She told me surgery can repair the problem, but it is risky. Yet leaving him as is is risky also. I do not know what to do. He is only 10 months old, and he is my world. He helped me through a tough depression, now he needs me. I really need advice on what to do... should he have the surgery or should we see if he can live without it? :(

Answer:
I think this is a dicussion for your vet. They know the situation better and the risks. I think you need to have a long talk with your vet and let them help you decide what is best - maybe even get a second opinion for another vet.

Good luck and I hope youy pup get's better.

Answer:
The operation might be risky, but if it repairs the problem, there is no damage done, while leaving it might kill the dog sooner than later. I would opt for the operation, but it is you and your vet that should decide.

Answer:
Is the dog stable right now?

Ask for a referral to a specialist. It will help you make a more definite decision.
