dog will not enter car and is she pregnant
Question: Recently adopted a rescued dog. She is Rot-Shepherd mix. Age between 1-2 years old. As she was abandoned in the countryside, she refuses to get into the car. I have tried bribing her with treats, praising. No luck. I have to lift her into the car. She is getting better about being in the vehicle, but still thinks she will be abandoned as soon as I stop. So far, I have only gone on short rides around the block, to the park, etc. What can I do... Also, how can I tell if she is pregnant or in heat. She is more restless, barks at every dog then cries out. And her breasts are larger. She was checked by the Vet. when I found her a month ago. Maggie is in great health. What do you suggest. Answer: As far as the "is she pregnant or in heat" part, I would run her back to the vet. While you are there, make an appointment to get her spayed. As far as the car thing, you are on the right track. Just keep doing what you are doing. When you get her out of the car, do something fun! Play tug, throw a ball for her to chase, give her a treat. Let her know that the destination is as much fun as the trip was. Answer: I had that problem, but to a lesser degree, when I first brought my rescued dog home. She didn't want to get in the car, as in the past getting in a car meant she was going to be taken to yet another place and left there. I did as Sandi suggests - took her in the car to the park, visiting friends, or other really fun places. She soon learned that I would always bring her home, and her fear left her. Just take your time with her. Be patient and she will eventually jump in the car eagerly! And yes, get her spayed ASAP. Answer: Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.tendlife.com
