Vaccination sores?
Question: This is probably no big deal, but I was a little concerned. My min-pin mix had her annual vaccinations about 10 days ago and she still has a small lump under her skin at the vaccination spot. Is this normal? Or could she have an infection? Answer: Did you know that vets do NOT adjust the dosage for vaccinations. They are the same dosage for a small dog like yours an a large breed like a St. Bernard. Even horses get the same dosage from what my vet tells me! It's stupid isn't it! Your dog may have a reaction or blister. You can try putting a cool cloth on the area to stop the 'burning' and keep an eye on it ..should go down soon. Also, how old is your dog? I dont' give annual vaccines. Just required rabies and I do worry about leptosporosis but my dog is allergic to the vaccine. It's been clinically proven vaccines last 7-10 years! Something to think about Answer: Tell your Vet and have it noted on your pet's record. Next time the Vax will be given IM. Sometimes a pet can react to a SQ Vax, usaully a Rabies. The lump should go down within a week. I have seen this type of post many times in this forum...I would like to hear what the Vet's have to say on this subject. Answer: I'm not sure how old she is. Her previous owner tossed her out of a car in March 2002. She'd just had puppies, so we've sure she's at least 3 years old. The lump doesn't seem to bother her, but when you're petting your dog and feel a weird bump, you get a little nervous. Thanks for responding so quickly. Answer: lol the vets will say keep vaccinating or we won't make money on the exam fee LMAO! Answer: Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.tendlife.com
